Hello,
I haven't been on this forum for a while but I need some input as to UVA/UVB requirements of pigs. My guys are currently housed in a temporary living space until the end of June. The cage is 2 by 5 for three 4-5 year old pigs (one neutered male, two females). Unfortunately, for the time being the cage has to be located in a large walk in closet. The space is adequate and well ventilated, with an air purifier, a cool mist humidifier, and normal lighting. My concern is that they do not have access to natural sun light in their normal cage. I do give them floor time where they are able to lay in the sun, but I can't do it all day every day so I was thinking of using a non-heat emitting canned lamp with a UVA/UVB bulb so that they are able to synthesize vitamin D naturally. Does anyone have any knowledge or input as to whether this would be useful or necessary?
Thank you!
