I am trying to collect ideas for how to stack 2 jumbo C&C cages with covers. I have cats so open cages probably not a good idea. I want to be sure the stand is sturdy enough if I have to take out center grid supports.
1) Is there maybe a way to partially reinforce the stand but still be able to have the lower cage have a cover?
2) If by putting in partial supports on the stand to support the top cage will not allow for the standard cover on the lower cage, would there be a way to modify the lower cage cover or use something else for the lower cage cover?
Thanks for any suggestions, ideas, and especially photos if you have solved this challenge.

Instead of having a cover for the bottom cage, why not have one grid space between levels and hinge the ones in front at the top so they can be lifted up to get into the bottom cage but fastened back afterwards?

If you go to the photo galleries and do a search for "stacked", you'll find lots of ideas. You can also do a google image search for "stacked c&c cage"

This was an old cage of mine. Do you see the opening in the front between both levels? You could attach 3 grids to fill that space but only connect the top of those grids to the bottom of the top level so you can swing them up to get into the bottom cage. It would be like having a door hinge on the top. You can add a clip so your pets can't push there way in. Does that make sense?

I think I might try that setup for my piggies. Did you find it difficult to clean either levels?

So one more stupid question - so the picture is of your two cages and the C&C stand that fits that size? its hard to tell where one stops and the other starts - it all looks like one piece - haha!

100_0744.jpgThe top flips down and the bottom flips up. I do have two bent grids inside that are zip tied together standing up to give support or you can buy 2x2 cut the length of the 3 grids to slide in. I also did no use any connectors. The bases also slide right out.

I love how you have the storage below so the bottom cage doesn't have to sit on the floor.

These are some other cages I made similarly. You can see more of the grid frame in the one with the black grids. They are basically two cages that have a row of grids in between. The top photo shows the back of the cage.

You can also make cages that have french doors.

Those are not my cages. I found them in the gallery. Looks like what they did was use closet shelves for the second floor base, and also for the roof. Closet shelves come in 12" and 16" depth, which would be perfect depth when you combine them together. Home Depot can cut the closet shelves to the length you need for your cage.

The sides look like regular grids, but they did put some wood for support for the doors.

Oh yes I see, the shelf idea is a good idea for stabilizing the center section of the cage so it doesn't sag, and i did notice the wood to support the doors. See, my mind just doesn't work like this - thank goodness for you people!!
