Connectors Alternatives to plastic cage connectors

Hello! Currently my little piggies are in a midwest Ferret Nation. While I love this for my chins, it's not the best for my pigs. I've been looking into the C&C cages, and recently bought a pack of cubes from K-Mart (which I don't recommend) and Walmart. However, I'm not happy with the grid connectors. I tried combining them with zip-ties, but I still don't feel it's very sturdy.

Are there any alternatives for connecting the grids than the plastic pieces?

You can use only zip ties, the connectors aren't really necessary.

We put ours together with only zip ties. The connectors we got were worthless. It seems to be very sturdy by the time you get it all put together.

Ditto on the zip ties, that's what most people use on here.

Makes the cage extremely sturdy. You can get them at any home improvement store. (Lowes, Home Depot, etc.)

I make all of my cages with zip ties. I use the 7 lb strength ones and my double decker 2x5 is sturdy enough that we can pick it up by the top of the grids, with no support under it, carry it around and even turn it over and it stays together. My husband slipped off a ladder and fell on the cage and it held his weight.
