Re: HELP!

Hi Paige!

It sounds like Cleo has a URI. Guinea pigs don't get colds just like humans, they get Upper Respiratory Infections. That means she needs to see an exotic specialist vet, not a small animal vet. She'll be prescribed an anti-biotic, and you should ask for a pro-biotic too so as the other meds don't make her go off her food.

Is she sneezing a lot, or every now and then? It does make a difference, because putting her through the stress of a vet visit and the physical stress of anti-biotics isn't warranted by occasional sneezing. If she's sneezing very regularly, I'd advise weighing her daily, the same time every day, preferably before breakfast. Keep a written record and see if she's loosing weight steadily, that may help you figure it out, as weight loss is often the first symptom of illness.

I don't know if this will help at all, but my youngest girl Pip tends to sneeze when we get to the bottom of our 18 gal hay container that I keep in the house due to the fact it gets a little crumbly and dusty towards the bottom. Or if I miss a day of sweeping out there cage. Do you notice any pattern to when she starts to sneeze? Does it start up after you vacuum the house, or after a cage cleaning which can throw dust up in the air? Weighing as princess_piggie suggested is a good idea as well.
