We recently have had to separate our boars in two cages. They used to have a cage with an offset loft. After a lot of time and injuries, we've separated the boys into two cages. So two are in the top and two in the bottom. I'm thinking of redoing the cage and having two identical cages on top of each other. A 2x4 or 2x5 on the bottom and the same directly over it, with a space in between. But, I'm wondering how to make the top layer stable? Any ideas? Any pictures? Thanks!!!

There are many ideas in the gallery.

Go to this link, https://www.guineapigcages.com/photos/
Type "stacked" in the search box on the left navigation menu.

For support, you can use wood.

Closet shelving also make a strong cage floor for the upper level. You can do something like this, without the ramp.

These are three cages I've had for my guinea pigs. The last one was a 2x5 over a 2x4, The other two were 2x4's over 2x4's. I currently have a 2x5 over a 2x5 but I don't have a photo of it. It's all white.
