Upper Levels Any ideas?

I made this hay area with a cardboard box, bedding, and newspaper. I find that I constantly change it every day because the newspaper gets wet and she pees and poop everywhere. (Good though because she litter trained to go there) I was wondering if anyone has a hay area idea where you have to change it once a week or just every other day. Preferably an idea where the hay isn't on fleece. Sorry this picture seems messy but as I said it's her litter box place, and I'm refilling her hay now!

Try wood pellets or paper pellets.

So leave the cardboard box and just place the bottom with pellets? Thanks!

Id switch to a plastic or coroplast box. The cardboard will get soggy and smelly. It won't be pretty.

Ditto @PiggieWigglies. Cardboard will get unhygienic pretty quickly, particularly if it's had pee soaking through to it. You need something none absorbent.

Ok! Which one do you think will be more suitable? And when I cut a little opening, what about the sharp edges?

I have an old pet store cage base converted into a kitchen. I use CareFRESH, and I completely change it once a week and spot-clean it midway through the week when I change the fleece, and it seems to work well for odor control.

I have a coroplast kitchen I bought from the store here which has all her food, hay, water in it with wood pellets. Nothing gets soggy or stinky. Wood pellets are dirt cheap, I pay $6 for 40 lbs. The rest of my girl's cage is fleece flippers so the wood pellets last a very long time.

The first one looks better (shorter) IMO, but either could work. You could cover the edges with some sort of adhesive rubber.

You could also sand the edges down so as they're good and blunted. I'd say the one on the left too, it looks easier to get in to and like it has more space for pigs.

How big is your loft? If it's only 1x2 grid, I would fill the whole loft with wood pellets.

Those boxes look pretty small to me.

I use a kitten litter tray, just under the hay rack, with hemp bedding in it - smells like compost as it's eco-friendly, which if your strange like me, is lovely.

I also put his pellets and veggies in there so, he just tends to poop and pee in there and sleep in there. He also poops and pees everywhere else, but he's good for an unlitter trained piggy!

I used one of those very same boxes for a hay area for my piggies' loft. The rest of the loft is coroplast with the wood pellets....

The sides of the plastic box? No, I didn't. I used to use the fiddle sticks there as a 'bridge" at the entrance to the clear box, but found it wasn't necessary. Now the fiddlesticks serve as more of a doormat to keep pellets from getting to the lower level.
