    A welcome addition

Thank you all, especially the advice about his eye. We will of course monitor him, so far OK but it IS early days. Good news - we have named him! He is Earl Barnabus Nelson, or Barney for short. He's still extremely cute and does enjoy a cuddle. Since Tuesday he's been in an old shop bought...

    On his last legs

I'm so sorry to read this. You did what you could, you at least got him to a vet. The sad thing is yes there are a lot of vets out there who don't know that much about piggies. It is very worth finding a good piggie vet ... I have found a couple now but had made a mistake in the past by not...

The strange things you do, when you're with your pig?

I really miss Marsha as her and I used to dance together to "Hoots Mon". Her on all fours, me on my elbows and knees. I'd take a couple of steps forward then a couple back and she'd do the same. I also sniff their ears when i want to say hello to them

Hello, I'm new to the board.

Wow! He's lovely. Don't worry about him being scared right now, he's been through a lot for a little piggie. He will settle.

    A welcome addition

Just to announce we have got the girls a boyfriend!!! (Neutered, of course). We went to a local rescue last night, they had a lot of piggies and the decision was hard, but my husband settled on a tri colour short haired. He is as yet un-named (any suggestions? The girls are called Lola, Dora...

    Marsha the Queen

This is Marsha, who passed away today (17th may) aged about 6 and a half. She was so loved and will be missed, but we are glad she's no longer in pain.

    Marsha the Queen has gone

Well, we knew the end was close. Marsha the Queen piggie passed away today, at some time between 3pm and 10pm. She had really bad arthritis. She was on metacam and baytrill and was doing fine, still eating and pooping OK, but in the past 2 days we noticed she was moving a little less at times...

    Keeping flies away

The weather in the UK has become very hot this week (25-27 degrees centigrade) so the girls have been in their outdoor run enjoying the grass (supervised, of course). My worry is that with the hot weather come a lot of insects. I know us humans can get insect repellent to put onto our skins...

    Housing Multiple Pigs

You will have to keep the new pigs housed separately for 3 weeks before introducing them. Keeping them apart means in different rooms and you should change your clothing when cleaning/handling, so they have no chance of coming into contact with any illnesses from each other. When they are...

    The Chronicles of Chalmette

The scammers make me laugh - I go to 491.com sometimes to have a good laugh. They are people who bait the scammers and waste their time. Good, I say. If the scammers are using time up on a baiter then that is less time they have to plunder innocent victims. I remember one baiter story where they...

    Freddie is getting neutered

I believe as well they need to be kept apart for a while after the operation too, just to make sure the male is infertile. How long that is I'm not sure but it's worth finding out (we've never had a boy piggie ourselves).

What should I use for a poop pan?

No poop pans here either - our girls are little poop machines! But having said that, they do tend to pee in areas in which they can go undercover. We use towel and fleece for bedding, with min towels and fleece for "bed" areas, under those footstools you can get from £ shops. We also have a...

    Nail Cutting Survey/Story

We cut them ourselves, but it is a two person job, one to hold and one to cut. We use Mikki soft grip clippers, they are like scissors and really easy to handle. When cutting nails, little and often is said to be best. There's a really good guide on GL - Guinea Lynx :: Nail Clipping
