Lethargy Tips for Helping a Pig Heal After Loss of a Partner

Since Griffin's already about middle-aged, and I go to college in 2.5 years, my parents don't want to get another pig now in case Griffin dies before I go to college, and then they're left with another pig to pair up again while I'm away at school--my parents don't want to keep my pig(s) once...

Lethargy Tips for Helping a Pig Heal After Loss of a Partner

I've had my pigs for about three years now, Toni and Griffin. I'd made plans to transition them to a new cage this weekend. I'd planned to tear down their old cage and while so doing, keep them in the new cage in another room until the new cage could be moved to their normal area. Anyhow, I went...

Well thank you very much! I am very happy with it as well. :)

Adopt vs. Buy Adopting Pet Shop Pigs

Have you tried Petfinder.com? I used that and found out (much to my surprise!) that there is an *Insert Name of My Town* Guinea Pig Rescue! I had no idea this rescue existed, but by searching for it, I ended up finding tons of guinea pigs in need of homes that were all well cared for. The best...

    Bonding Bonding With The Owner

This might sound strange, but I find that it helps to read aloud to your pigs. If you're still in school, then maybe read to them from your biology assignment. Or, if you're not, then just read to them from the book you're currently reading, or even just posts from this website! As long as...

    Adopting Thinking about adopting....

Just checking! I should have read your original post more carefully. :)
  7. 3x4 C&C

    3x4 C&C

This is the cage in which my 2 pigs live. It is a 3x4 with a 2 grid high stand, and french doors on the front which open for ease of cleaning.
  8. New Homemade Cage Liner

    New Homemade Cage Liner

My sister and I (mostly my sister) sewed this cage liner for my pigs. I am in love with it-- the fabric, and the ease of use.

    Adopting Thinking about adopting....

Are these your first guinea pigs? Do you have any currently, or have you had any in the past?

    flea control advice

Have you taken your dog to the vet? They probably have multiple recommendations/knowledgeable staff members to help you out with that. I've used Frontline and never had any problems with it, but my dog spends most of the day outside, and is never directly in contact with my pigs.

    General Hay Rack Help....

Also, what kind of hay are you using? Lower quality hays are often sharper and more conducive to eye poking. In my experience, Oxbow is usually very soft, green, and a piggie favorite. I know it's more expensive, but it's usually very high quality. Or, if you're already using Oxbow or a hay...

    General Hay Rack Help....

I have tried what feels like every type of hay rack (including the kind pictured) but I recommend making one like this-- They lose very little hay, allow for lots of hay in the rack at one time, and I've never had any problems with eye-poking with a hay rack like this. I made my own, using...

Cage Let's see your cage Pictures please.

Here is my 3x4 (on a 2 grids high stand) with the new cage liner that my sister and I sewed this week. My cage, instead of having connectors all the way around, has cable tie hinges on the front of the cage to make french doors for easier cleaning. They are secured to the cage base with binder...

Coroplast Are Clorox Wipes Piggie-Safe for Cleaning Coroplast?

Like I said, I normally use vinegar/water, but was curious about using Clorox wipes for a "deep cleaning" if you will. I will just continue to use vinegar/water. :)

Coroplast Are Clorox Wipes Piggie-Safe for Cleaning Coroplast?

I usually use a 50/50 vinegar water mixture to clean my coroplast, but I was wondering if Clorox disinfecting wipes are piggie-safe? My coroplast is under a layer of towels and then a layer of fleece, but obviously pigs can and do flip the bedding and come into contact with the coroplast. Thanks!

Blog Making New Liners and 2 years with my pigs!

My sister and I have completed the first liner, and I will be making a new thread in the forum with my new liner. :)

    Senior Guinea Pig Losing Weight

You're not failing at all! Like bpatters said, it is a hard job. :) My pigs are still fairly young (2.5 and 3) so I haven't experienced this yet, but I do have a possible suggestion. Maybe you could try some new varieties of hay (orchard grass, and a little bit of alfalfa now and then as a...

That is so adorable I might cry! Precious precious! My pigs usually sleep with their eyes open, so I don't get to see this cuteness very often.

    New members saying hello

When I adopted my pigs, I found them through Petfinder.com, emailed in my application with my plans for building a C&C, and once I was approved, drove to the rescue. I was actually given a very nice cage from the rescue (Midwest Guinea Habitat) for an addition to the adoption fee, and my pigs...
