What kind of hay is that? My girls go through the Timothy Hay too quickly, and it is kind of expensive to buy a new bag each week. I am trying to find something different that I can buy in a larger quantity. Thank you!!

The hay I have is Brome, you can get Timothy in bulk though, I get mine at a feedstore in square bales for $5.99, its about 80 ibs of hay too. It dosent matter what kind of hay you get as long as it is grass hay and it is horse quality.

How often do you clean their hay room and how? I'm new to the world of guinea pigs, and I want to add a hay room to my cage.

How I clean it , is I take all of the hay out of the hayracks and put it in a box, then I take off the hayracks and I scoop out all the shaving and hay that fell on the floor and then I put in new shavings and then I replace the hayracks and hay in them, sometimes adding new hay if it is low or its not the good parts left. I clean it about every 3 days, depending on how much they potty in it.

Ya, horse hay is fine. There is no certain type of hay for small animals, hay is hay(given it is a grass hay) there is no differenece rather its in a small bag at petco or in a bale in a field, except maybe the quality of it, but I find that alot of by the bale hay is nicer than the little bags at a petstore, its also sooooo much cheaper and so the pigs can have more of it without wasteing money when it gets gross and slept in or pottyed on. The hay I get is also softer which they like alot.
