No sharp edges, sturdy, and easy to cut. I spent $5.30 on ten feet of rain gutter. We used scrap wood for the landings, and I used scrap cloroplast to line them. I also used leftover uhaul pads and fleece to line them for traction.Cheap and easy! For me, it's quite hard to clean when it was permanently attached to the loft. Now I've made it removable and I can soak it in my bathtub. 1) Cut a hole in the grid and attach drain pipe with zip-ties. I attached mine in 4 spots. This panel will be removable. 2) Cut a hole in another grid and make sure there are no sharp edges. I file them down and cover with electrical tape. This grid is permanently attached to the upper level. 3) Attach the removable panel to the permanent one with binder clips. Use as many clips until you think it’s secure. 4) Use coroplast or an extra grid to block off the entrance when you remove the ramp for cleaning. NOTE: * Only one pig can get up or down at a time. ** My pigs are only 4 months old, if you have bigger pigs, they may not fit in the ramp and may get stuck. *** When buying this kind of pipe, choose the solid ones. The ones with holes for irrigation system can be a hazard to your pigs as their nails can get caught in the holes.

10 comments http://www.guineapigcages.com/photos/easy-ramps-how-to/p14666-how-to-make-a-removeable-drain-pipe-ramp.html http://www.guineapigcages.com/photos/easy-ramps-how-to/p14666-how-to-make-a-removeable-drain-pipe-ramp.html Sun, 15 Mar 2009 11:24:33 -0700 Easy Ramp

by: debbie1313

Description}: This ramp is made of 2 bent cube sides with coroplast lining and 2 placemats that have ridges. This distributes the weight and prevents joint where the two panels panels meet from taking all the pressure. It also prevents bowing as they go up and down the ramp. Any STIFF, waterproof product would work. The idea is to keep the two panels from collapsing or bouncing as they run up and down it. This does NOT show how I attached the ramp to the upper level to avoid having it bounce. If you note the joint where the two ramps are attached, I slid the ramp over, and zip tied it to the floor of the upper level. When I want to move the upper level, I cut off the zip tie, lift up the ramp, snap it to the upper level and when I'm done, I zip tie it again. Zip ties are cheap so it's no big deal. This ramp does not allow 2 pigs at the same time, which is a drawback, and now after 6 months, I'm thinking of adding a second ramp so that there is little fighting over ramp right of way. This MUST be covered with something that will allow them to grip as they go up and down. A two panel ramp is quite steep. IF they don't have something to grasp onto as they go up and down, they will have chapped butts. YES, I found this out the hard way. For a while I was using a single layer of fleece thinking it was fine until one day I realized that they couldn't grip enough going down and were SLIDING down the ramp. A closer look showed that their poor little male testicles had rug burns. What A BAD MOMMY! So please learn from my mistake and use at LEAST two layers of fleece. The best thing I've done so far is to sew two pieces of fleece together with some batting and then sew across it so that they have nice squishing gripping place

3 comments http://www.guineapigcages.com/photos/easy-ramps-how-to/p6043-ramp-base-3-of-3.html http://www.guineapigcages.com/photos/easy-ramps-how-to/p6043-ramp-base-3-of-3.html Thu, 26 Oct 2006 14:28:55 -0700 Side view of attached ramp #2 of 3

by: Slave to the Wheek

Description}: This shows how I attached two panels together. They are zip tied together very tightly all around with about 8 tiny zip ties. If you use the mesh panels like I did, then you have to use very small ties, as larger ones won't fit through the holes. The area where the ramp is attached was neccessary to avoid having the ramp take up area on the sides of the cage. I was concerned about two things. One was the steepness of the ramp since I only used 2 panels, and two was the amount of space for the pigs once they got to the bottom of the ramp. I found that if I did it straight out, that the pigs would run down the ramp and slide into the end of the cage. Doing it this way allowed them much more room and reduced the steepness. It allows me to move the upper cage around. The upper level is a cage to itself and it attached to the lower level using industrial strength velcro that was glued to the tops of the connectors on both the upper/lower levels. This allows me to remove the top level if I want to.

8 comments http://www.guineapigcages.com/photos/easy-ramps-how-to/p6042-side-view-of-attached-ramp-2-of-3.html http://www.guineapigcages.com/photos/easy-ramps-how-to/p6042-side-view-of-attached-ramp-2-of-3.html Thu, 26 Oct 2006 14:15:48 -0700 Close-up showing how to zip tie ramp to upper level

by: Slave to the Wheek

Description}: Zip/cable tieing in this manner allows me to lift the ramp when I am working on the lower level. Lo and behold, they can (and seem to really enjoy) jump up on top of the house and get up the ramp. The towel is tucked in under the roof to give some traction, as they have problems with bare wood. The house is about the same height as a cinder block, which would also work well. The ramp is just a cube side folded into 3rds with leftover bits of coroplast forming the bottom (with crosspieces for traction). I'm worried it might be rough on their feet, so I'm going to get some carpet scraps to fasten down to the ramp bottom.

2 comments http://www.guineapigcages.com/photos/easy-ramps-how-to/p5720-simple-c-amp-c-ramp-to-house-roof.html http://www.guineapigcages.com/photos/easy-ramps-how-to/p5720-simple-c-amp-c-ramp-to-house-roof.html Thu, 10 Aug 2006 17:38:04 -0700 ramp

by: Curly's Slave

Description}: this is a piece of shelving with a piece of coroplast over it. i put a piece of carpet padding (?...the stuff underneath rugs and carpets) for traction...

5 comments http://www.guineapigcages.com/photos/easy-ramps-how-to/p4865-ramp.html http://www.guineapigcages.com/photos/easy-ramps-how-to/p4865-ramp.html Sun, 26 Mar 2006 17:16:05 -0800 It's a back scratcher too

by: VoodooJoint

Description}: Dilly coming out of the bottom of the ramp.

9 comments http://www.guineapigcages.com/photos/easy-ramps-how-to/p3027-it-s-a-back-scratcher-too.html http://www.guineapigcages.com/photos/easy-ramps-how-to/p3027-it-s-a-back-scratcher-too.html Tue, 14 Jun 2005 18:15:53 -0700 It's too crowded up here.
