Hey! I have recently started writing reviews on all those far too small cages sold on amazon. I usually write that the cage is too small, and that people should build a c&c cage, or at least buy a midwest cage. Maybe it'll get some people to buy or build a larger cage, who knows? Anybody care...

What I do in these situations is I post on the local (Swiss) guinea pig forum with a link to the ad. This way, it's much more likely that the pig will go to a good home. Maybe there is a forum in the UK as well?

You write it's not a new brand for them. Is it a new bag? I would smell it, maybe it smells a bit off, mildewy or otherwise bad. Or maybe the company has changed some of the ingredients?

Do you shred the paper yourself? Or are they special paper shreds?

I have part fleece, part shavings in a very large cage. But the shavings are all over the fleece, which is a bit annoying. You could put hay on top of the shavings to keep them from being ditributed all over, but then it gets smelly a bit sooner.

I'm sorry to be so blunt, but you shouldn't adopt a pet when you can't offer it a better home than it would have somewhere else. Which means: Guinea pigs do need a buddy. And they do need more room than yours has in that tiny cage. I appreciate your good intentions when adopting it, but please...

Mine sqeaked when they had mites, but for less than a second each time. How long are the sqeaks? And is your pig really alone? Then it could be crying out to others, out of loneliness. Please get him/her a buddy in that case.
