I'm very glad that the original poster has reconsidered her position. There really is no need to try to defend it when she herself has abandoned it. |

I wasn't defending her position. I was defending her dignity. Sort of. it doesn't really matter anymore, though, does it? |

Okayyy... Reading through these gave me a bigger headache. People are argueing in circles and pentagons and I barely understand a thing other than the fact that some people think mods are too stern and stubborn. I'll put my own two cents in and then hide under a rock. The mods stick to their rules they made because it's their own website and they support what they think what is best for the piggies and the users. Now, when it comes to certain users, BAM, there is the problem. But we deal with it. Some way or another. So, there! Problem solved! Goodbye! |

I think we should all just forget about this thread because it's turned into an argument that keeps going around and around like a circle. Let's all recognize that we have our own opinions. I am sorry if I acted like this, sounded like that, or offended anybody at all. I can't change the past, but I'm sorry if I caused anybody to feel bad. I feel bad now that I started this thread because even though it's the Kitchen, it still feels kind of personal. I still don't understand how my defending myself is considered throwing a tantrum. In my book, a tantrum involves screaming and kicking and crying, and I didn't think I did any of that. I'm sorry if this bothered anybody, as well. I really think we should all move on and just forget about this thread. I am personally walking away and I will not be replying to any other responses after this reply is posted. I hope you all will too. Have a nice day everybody! |

I really don't think anyone here has any problem with anyone having a different opinion on guinea pig care as long as the stated opinion isn't harmful - or potentially so - to their animals. That's the case with the opinion you stated on not feeding guinea pigs the quantities and varieties suggested here. It's the same as if a person came along and said they prefer to use cedar bedding or a small pet store cage. Yes, it's an opinion, but it's also one we strive to change and are obliged to say so. Which is exactly why people stepped up and voiced an opposing opinion to yours, and it seems you listened, as you said you're going to reconsider what and how much you're feeding. I understand that you felt it was personal, but in the end it's meant for the greater good of your pigs, and hopefully you can appreciate that. |

It always seems to me on these threads that everyone is entitled to their opinion UNLESS that opinion differs from yours (using the general "you" in this post); then they are mean, judging you, criticizing you, accusing you, etc. YOUR opinion is "just an opinion" to be respected, but theirs is automatically judgmental and mean because it differs from yours. As for the chat speak, smilies, general internet idiocy...I'm an old hag in terms of how long I've been on the internet participating in forums (or the things before forums existed). I've watched our language degrade into cornea-stabworthy swill that simply makes the poster look like a total idiot. We used to straight flame and harass folks off our gaming boards for typing like that. Our aim was to make them cry in real life, so this forum is pretty much full of white fluffy bunnies and hugging heart-adorned rainbow unicorn sparkle-ponies in comparison. To be blunt, posters who use all that chat speak usually seem to turn out to be fairly oversensitive and project an air of emotional immaturity and defensiveness. That's my terrible stereotype o-the-day. I'm not sure exactly what my point is; I suppose just that this forum isn't very mean, you are not the only person entitled to their opinion without being a jerk, and for every person who thinks the mods are rule-nazis there is someone like me who is grateful to not have their eyes bleeding and vitreous fluid pooling in their shoe. |
