You bought a male and a female guinea pig and put them together. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that the female would end up pregnant in that situation.

It sounds to me like you did it on purpose. Otherwise you wouldn't have put them together or you would've neutered your male guinea pig.

Plus to call him her "mate" sounds to me like you were hoping she would get pregnant.

I was given the wrong information. That's in my first post if you had bothered to read it. And before owning these two, I didn't know the first thing about guinea pigs, so I took the advice that was given to me, which was wrong. I came here hoping to find the RIGHT information, but instead of letting me learn from you, you've made me dislike a very informative website and you've made me less likely to ask for help from anyone else for fear of being treated in the same manner that you've treated me. Congratulations, I hope you're proud of yourself.

Oh my God, you are so ignorant it really isn't even funny. I can't even reply to what you said, because it's so wrong on so many levels that I am just sitting here dumbfounded! I really am.

I will say this though, I'm sorry you feel that we are personally attacking you. Speaking for myself, I can honestly say I wasn't (& I don't think anyone else meant to either). Maybe we all can be accused of being a little too passionate about these little guys, but since you too have fell victim to their charm - can you really blame us?

Please take the info you find on this site and continue to use it. It can only benefit your pigs...and if you want to forget the rest of us, that's fine. Just don't stop educating yourself - please. I'm literally begging here.

Regardless of any of this, your ideas that petstores are okay, after all of the FALSE information you've gotten from your PETSMART or PETCO job, you should be a little more open to ideas of adopting or rescuing.

You have sat here and repeatedly bashed rescuing and praised petstore pets, therefore you have made your own bed.

After this situation as occurred, gemstone, you'd think you'd be a little more open to the things and information we offer here on anti-breeding and pro-rescue.

After all you've been through, now you've got a pregnant guinea pig, and you still are defending petstores and breeding.

I haven't bashed anything! I've stated MY opinions! You are absolutely heartless, you know that? Here I am saying that I want to learn about guinea pigs and you are just telling me that I shouldn't be allowed to have any pets and I'm a terrible person...if anyone is 'bashing' it's you. I wish you knew what it was like to be me and to react to what you've said so you know how badly you can hurt someone. Ok, who in their right mind wants to travel for 6 hours just to get a guinea pig for their 7 year old daughter who is probably sick anyway from a rescue when you can drive half an hour to a pet store and buy a healthy one?


THAT is the most ignorant thing I've seen on this entire thread and it was posted by YOU.

YOU just BASHED rescuing, while also poking fun at someone who DOES go out of their way to drive MANY hours to save a guinea pigs life. HOW is THAT humane?!

It sounds like you got that female from a GREAT petshop! <yes, that statement is dripping with sarcasm>

What advice or help did you need that you are not getting? I don't recall you asking any questions or looking for help. all you did was introduce yourself and then start touting the wonders of petshops. NOT the best way to start out on a rescue oriented forum don't you think?

Gemstone, word of advice: Don't bother. If you think they are hard on you on this forum and because you bought unaltered GP's from a petstore, try WORKING for a pet store and posting on here and Guinealynx!! I work for Petco (for now) and have taking a much bigger beating than you have. This site and Guinealynx are pro-rescue and anti-pet store period. If a person doesn't fall in line with their mentality he/she gets chopped down to size right quick. Welcome to cyberland where anyone with a computer can hide behind it and bash people all they want in safety.

These sites are wonderful for providing free care information which I gladly use for my own pigs and share with my customers at work, but their people skills are severly lacking. Don't let it bother you. Either they learn to live with people who don't see everything about pigs their way, OR people will learn to leave these forums alone and go to a different more accepting forum.

Many members on GL are all in a tizzy because I was thinking of re-homing my GP's (long, complicated reasons) and you should SEE the comments they are making!!! Wow!! I didn't realize my life would be under such scrutiny:rolleyes:

As I said, don't discount this forum for the great information, just take the criticisms with a grain of salt and move on to friendlier territory.

I'm new to this. I just got the pigs in December and I was hoping that this site would teach me about them so I could learn to better care for them. But no one has helped me. No one has even been civil to me in stating their retaliations to my post. You all have treated me like and even SAID that I don't deserve to have any pets. You have no idea how badly that hurt me. I'm not going to sit here and be insulted by someone who's assumed every single detail about me without so much as asking a single question. I will cancel my account as soon as possible.
