Re: Cavy Cages Posting Etiquette & Rules Oh-h-h-h. Yeah, now I see why that one may be frowned upon a bit. Thanks, Pennick!

Re: Cavy Cages Posting Etiquette & Rules An occasional slip up is okay as we all do it, but if you completely ignore the rules, then that is a different matter and may result in being banned.

Re: Cavy Cages Posting Etiquette & Rules Just work hard on using capitalization and punctuation amfeider. Those are the two things that drive the mods the craziest. We can overlook most spelling issues unless the word is badly misspelled and we can overlook most grammar issues. For those doing it, I can't overlook chat speak at all. It has no place whatsoever on this forum.

Re: Cavy Cages Posting Etiquette & Rules I have used "LOL" occasionally but will refrain from doing so in the future if it annoys you. It only irritates me when I imagine someone bursting out laughing at the end of a totally non-laughable phrase.

Re: Cavy Cages Posting Etiquette & Rules I would have to agree with alot of you, saying LOL to many times/multiply can get annoying and I also do occasionally mess up a word or some grammar. I'm a teen and on other teenish websites and IM, we use chat speak to our friends, but rules are rules. I do have a question on one thing, if someone (like me) finds a word that they cannot spell but know the meaning and don't know any other way to explain, would (sp?) be aloud? I can't spell every word, and I don't feel that you should get a dictonary every time.

Re: Cavy Cages Posting Etiquette & Rules Yes, a very occassional (sp?) is okay. However, I disagree about the dictionary. If it's there, and you aren't sure, look it up. If you are posting in a non-normal place and don't have access to a dictionary then fine. If you can't spell every word, then looking them up every time will go a long way towards getting you more educated so that you will be able to spell every word. You win.

Re: Cavy Cages Posting Etiquette & Rules Since I have come on this site, my spelling has drastically improved. Everytime I can't spell a word in my post I'll look it up, and it has helped loads.

Re: Cavy Cages Posting Etiquette & Rules There are online dictionaries such as www.dictionary.com and www.m-w.com for those that do not have one at home.

Re: Cavy Cages Posting Etiquette & Rules Or plain old Google. If I'm close but not sure I use Google. It's very rare that it'll suggest the wrong spelling. Besides, a good portion of the populatin A) Is very farmiliar with Google B) Has Google access sitting on the top of thier browser window and C) Can't find thier paper dictionary anymore. I know I can't. Google is also good for people like my husband who think phonetically. He usually gets more acurate suggestions from Google then an online dictionary

Re: Cavy Cages Posting Etiquette & Rules Once I was reading someone's work at school and I just threw it back on their desk and they said "What?!" "Your spelling is... Well no other way to put this... BAD!"

Re: Cavy Cages Posting Etiquette & Rules What about those with learning disabilities? Not that I have one, but some people do and they have real difficulties with spelling, punctuation, grammer, and language in general. To the point where they can't even manage to use a dictionary. I totally agree with you on everything, especially the chat speak bit, but I just want to make sure this isn't a "no exceptions" zone. Oh and I know I just got here, but this forum is really nice, there's so much knowledge! I feel like a little sponge, thanks for the awesome forum.

Re: Cavy Cages Posting Etiquette & Rules You're welcome. We have yet to come across a case of such a person on this forum. Someone with severe learning disabilities is unlikely to be an active participant on a forum. We take postings into account from people with English as a second language all the time. Allowances are made when circumstances warrant it.

Re: Cavy Cages Posting Etiquette & Rules The only learning disability I have heard of people claiming they had on this site is dyslexia. In most cases being dyslexic does not cause capitalization or punctuation problems. I am dyslexic and am able to capitalize and punctuate fine. If I have a problem it that I sometimes "flip-flop" letters. Even if dyslexia does cause someone to improperly capitalize or punctuate all they need to do is take a moment to reread their post slowly and fix any problems before posting it. Most of the time it is simple laziness not dyslexia.
