Thread Prefixes

We now have the ability to add thread prefixes to thread titles. Why is this important?

• Quite a few members post obtuse thread titles, forcing us all to read something that we might otherwise not.
• With hundreds of thousands of post, searching for threads on various topics can be time-consuming and tedious.
• I really want all of us to do better job of staying on topic on threads, and hopefully, the thread prefix will be a reminder of the general topic area.
• At some point, when we get all the thread prefixes fleshed out, I may REQUIRE thread prefixes. At the moment, they are optional. BUT, I want people to get in the habit of using them.

Please reply to this thread with your suggestions of thread prefixes. They MUST BE SHORT.

Please put the forum name, then the thread prefix you are suggesting. Make sure we haven't already added it.

Cafe: Work, Dogs, Cats, Vacation,

Vegetarian: Food, Health Concerns, Omnivors (hehe), Going Veg., Going Vegan

Rats: Feeding, Caging, Bedding

Other: Feeding

Bunnys:Feeding, Caging, Bedding

I know, they aren't the best!

But I LOVE the idea of manditory prefixes!

Oh, I get it now! All I needed was for somebody else to go first, hehe.

Diet forum: Hay, Veggies & Fruits, Veggies, Fruits, Pellets, Weeds (or Forages), Grass, Amount to feed, How often to feed, etc.

Medical and Vet. Forum: Pregnancy, URI, Urinary System, Cancer, Geriatric, Bumblefoot, Impaction, Scurvy, Dental, Infection, etc.

About guinea pigs forum: Behavior, Quarantine, New Guinea Pig, Pregnancy, Odor, etc.

If I get more ideas, I will post them here.

About Pigs: Maybe a miscellaneous prefix

Medical/Vet: Would nail trimming go here?, sneezing, UTI, URI

Cages: alternative c&c, baby poof, upper level, space saver,

Also, most of the forum sections offer only options for that section, but in the cage forum, it's all bedding options. Maybe make it so that a particular forum only has prefixes that pertain to it. (EX: Accessories has only accessory prefixes, not that AND bedding prefixes)

I think it's best to keep the prefixes rather broad. I would rather only have something like "sick" instead of having to choose from things like "UTI" "URI" etc.

I really like the idea of prefixes though.

I love the idea of the prefixes. Kudos to whoever thought of it. I don't have any ideas about other prefix options (yet), but I just wanted to let it be known that I am all for anything that helps with clarity in posts.

I think the prefixes area good idea. What about a section on babies? I just thought of it since I just adopted 3 day old pups. It seems lately a few people have also possessed a few preggo piggies so why not? It would answer a lot of baby questions and birthing/delivery and such.

Please have a look at the prefixes we already have in place for the various forums before suggesting new ones. Some of the ones suggested are already in place.

To see what prefixes are already available, just go to "new thread" in any forum section and it will tell you what's available for that section.

Okie Dokie, if you all look there are a lot more prefixes now. They are also forum specific, so please try to use them and post your questions in the appropriate forum section.

We will probably be adding more as time goes by but there is a pretty good selection for most of the forum sections. We've taken a lot of your ideas so keep them coming!!

I went to start a thread to update everyone but couldn't find a suitable prefix. Prefixes like "photos/pictures" or "updates", something along those lines would be helpful in the About Guinea Pigs section maybe.

As you know PFL, updates belong on the original thread if there is one.

Currently members are allowed one photo thread for their pigs and T is working on the profile photo albums and so you may not want to post pics in threads yet but post them in your albums once that's worked out.

Update:
Some forum areas now require MANDATORY prefixes. If there is not a prefix for your question, first of all make sure you are in the appropriate area of the forum for your questions. IE: Don't ask about bedding in the Diet and Nutrition forum. Secondly, if there is no prefix that matches exactly what you want to ask and you are in the right forum, then pick the closest one to your issue.

The areas that now require mandatory prefixes are the Medical and Veterinary forum, the Diet and Nutrition forum, the Adoptables forum, the Bedding forum, the About Cages Forum and the Accesories forum.

If you have multiple questions on different subjects, please post them separately in the appropriate forum areas.

Example: You want to ask about bedding and what kind of veggies to feed and how often you can bathe your pig. Don't ask them on one thread, please break the questions down and put the bedding question in the bedding forum, the veggie question in the Diet & Nutrition forum and the bathing question in About Guinea Pigs.

How about in accessories one that says beds or bunkbeds or both. I was looking for one similar but did not find one. So I held off on my post. Thank you for looking.

About Guinea Pigs and the Pregnancy and Babies forums are now also mandatory for prefixes. If it does NOT fall under any other category in About Guinea Pigs, put it under General.

Haven't been here in ages, wow this board has really gone fancy bells and whistles! So much so the content gets lost in my opinion, but whatever I am old and obsolete anyway.

I am disappointed to see that the "No Thanks" thumbs down feature has returned.

Can anyone tell me if there is a prefix for vacation and/or traveling (with or without your piggies)? I couldn't find one unless I was looking in the wrong forum. Thanks!
