What do you mean 'nasty stuff to it'?

Re: Did you find going veggie easy?

Well first, I heard of meet your meat, and then I heard it was terrible, so I did some research on vegetarianism and found out as much as I could until my curiosity led me to watch the video... I threw up, (actually throwing up the last piece of chicken I had earlier that day...) but I was so disgusting for me. I went upstairs and ate an apple, and that was the end of meat for me. So anyway, it was very, very easy for me and I have been totally meat free since 05-13-05, 08:15 pm

I wish I was talking about that. The staff spot in burgers, rub them on the floor. A place in London was closed dowm because someone placed sperm in the milkshake.

Re: Did you find going veggie easy?

I found go vegetarian very easy. I never liked meat much, especially when you'd cut into it and see veins and all kinds of gross things. I couldn't eat meat without picturing a pile of cow heads at a slaughterhouse and gross things like that, and I would gag.

I come from an area where not eating meat is very rare so family members don't really like that I don't eat meat. My mother gives me a hard time about it, well, she did at first. I live on my own now, but my mother said that when I went to her house to eat dinner, "that I was GOING to eat meat." and my stepfather stuck up for me and said I shouldn't have to. She went on and on about how 'sick' I was going to get, because meat is sooo good for me. She has given in and now makes me veggie nuggets by a brand called Chick 'N', I think it is.

I get my eggs from my in-law's pet chickens, so I know how they are treated, I go play with them all the time, and my milk comes from pet cows, no hormones or nastiness associated with it.

Re: Did you find going veggie easy?

Don't think I am a heartless person but its been a battle for me and its my third day. Temptation is everywhere as I eat out alot[ there are only so many salads I can take!!!][And I love meat.. I really do..] and I was raised a true carnivore in the irish catholic tradition of meat and potatoes. I too watched the video and decided to make a change. The reason why its going to be hard is because I find vegetarians hypocritcal <ducks> Why? Because some vegetarians still use leather products, some still eat dairy, whose animals are still treated just as badly, at least in the video. Veganism makes more sense and is far less hypocritical in my eyes.. but darnit I just love cheese.. Oy.. well I can say its my third day without meat and I do feel healthier already... now.. I can also say that my uncle was a dairy farmer and his animals were treated wonderfully. They weren't even herded into the barn they came in at the same time to get their alfalfa treat and they ate while they were milked.. Milked twice a day and then free ranged in LARGE expanses. The calves were not tied down with no room.. and alot were handraised by my aunt and my cousins. They were treated like pets till they were old enough to join the herd. I spent alot of my days at that farm and my aunt has done alot of animal husbandry for wildlife and so on. If any animals were mistreated.. she would of put a stop to it in a heartbeat. That was one thing my aunt and I had in common.. we loved animals. So where is the happy middle ground? Can you really be about saving animals and give up just the products you want to? ORRR.. do you just try to save all you can. Cause isn't that the bottom line and goal? To stop animal mistreatment? To save animals? I know there are freeranged eggs and milk out there.. but where do you find freerange cheese? And just how freerange is freeranged? I'm not inspecting these farms and anyone can stamp freerange on a box. And when I order from take out places what kind of cheese and milk and eggs are they using? Moral dilemmas.. aren't they fun? And what about the leather and suede shoes I wear now do I throw them away? Whatever I decide to do I am going to stick with Vegetarian as long as possible. They may kill animals without me eating meat, but I'm going to contribute to it as little as I can. I hope I don't get flamed for this, this is just what I'm going through and what I have observed others write.

Re: Did you find going veggie easy?

Wheekwheek, I know what you mean! It was extremely hard for me.. and I also love meat... But there isn't a chance that I'll eat it again..

Being vegetarian saves 94 lives a year! (A person) so we are making a difference!

I try hard not to wear shoes made of leather (like sandals I wear a lot) but sometimes I just can't help it.. I have to wear tennis shoes or it's nothing. I don't wear wool, leather, and all that other stuff (cept in shoes, because the non-animal product shoes are much, much too expensive). I'm trying hard to cut down on dairy, and the only dairy I actually eat is eggs and milk.. But eggs is cutting down really fast, and I'm not sure that I can go without milk..

Re: Did you find going veggie easy?

I have leather sandals as well Ruby... my favorite pair actually. I think I'll keep em till they wear out and get me some nice bamboo ones. I don't wear wool, I don't think.. too darn hot in North Carolina even in winter. (I'm a Tshirt and jeans girl all year round. I have been eating eggs and milk as well.. Fish is a moral dillema.. How do you catagorize mistreatment? Huge nets scooping you up and being put in a cargo hold that is full of your dead and dying brethren? Oh... personal choices.

Yes Re: Did you find going veggie easy?

My hats off to all of you...I tried going Veggie Looooong time ago. But I lost so much weight, my hair started to fallout, and it was just awful.

I watch what I eat now, but if you really want to see a video, see "SUPER SIZE ME"..you will NEVER eat out again. We eat lots of veggies, and chicken. My husband fishes but he catch and releases...We like the "fake" meat..but watch the sodium in those too. Click on to Vegetarian Times (vegetariantimes.com) or just ask jeeves and find out where it's at. They have excellant reading and receipies. Also the cook book " back to EDEN is really good too. Good luck to all of you. You would make any parent proud!

Re: Did you find going veggie easy?

I have watched "Supersize Me" except for the surgery scence. Being vegitarian the only thing I now eat is the fries, which is about twice a month. I really know it is horrible, though.

I hated that video - duh, when you eat a lot of anything there are going to be side affects. Like I have said before, I don't eat any fast food.

Congratulations! I have been a vegetarian for 13 years now. I can honestly say that I never have a craving for beef, pork, lamb, etc. Every once in a while, I'll have a small craving for some chicken or seafood....then I just dive into my hummus recipe.

Oh gee, my parents are not proud! They don't like the fact that I'm vegetarian! ALWAYS cooking up meat and asking me if I want some... GAr.
