Question Is there vegan Halloween candy?

I'm trying to figure out if there is a such thing as vegan halloween candy, that costs the same as regular candy, and you don't necessarily have to order it online.

As in, not in a health food store like GreenLife or EarthFare, which would automatically mark up the price....and not online, because ordering candy online is, in my opinion, a waste of excessive packaging that only serves to add fluff to the landfills. Also, it could melt, etc etc.

Thanks in advance!!

A google search for "vegan halloween candy" revealed a list from Peta PETA: Elvira's Halloween Treats

I dislike Sweedish Fish (horrible before and after taste), but I do know that Sour Patch Kids are vegan. Yum.

Hm, but what about the sugar being filtered through bone char?
You could give out potato chips, that's what my family usually does.

Re: Is there vegan Halloween candy?

Juice boxes, tooth brushes and tooth paste, dollar store toys, apples, oranges, apple sauce, pretzles, those cute little halloween plastic cups are all things I like to give away. My kids are allowed to eat as much candy as they want from 5pm until 9pm and thats it...Then we eat the rest! LOL Then the rest of the candy goes into the candy box and they have to do extra chores to get a piece. Last year we went to a church party and my oldest son (2.5 at the time) won the grand prize, a new bike! He will be able to use it in about another 3 years but he was so excited!

Exclamation My Uncles are Cops!!!

Toothbrushes and toothpaste will get your house rolled. Same with chick tracts. DO NOT hand these out if you value your property. Just saying. I'm not a kid and have not been in a long time. I was never a vandal, but I DO know these things to be truth.

Safety information below!

Juice boxes, fresh fruit and exposed items will be thrown out. (Police who voluntarily search candy bags in some towns will pull these, too easily tampered). This includes fruit cups with foil wrappers ect. Potato chips are fine, as is anything else in a sealed container. Raisins are common and dried fruit in sealed boxes/zip bags. DO NOT OPEN ANYTHING before you hand it out. If it is not in sealed containers, if it could be tampered with, do not give it out. This is as much for the chidren's safety as it is yours.

I usually make a treat bag with a plastic toy, a piece of gum, and a piece of chocolate candy. Alternately, you could have a tiny box of raisins, a toy, and a pencil, or as someone suggested, a plastic cup.

Toothbrushes and toothpaste? If you give that out kids will surely never visit again or take revenge. I know I would (the revenge part, most likely
).

Potato chips are a good idea, especially Doritos. Yum. Tiny toys are good too.
Yeah, as a kid, I'd throw anything already opened or could be tampered with, and so would my parents.

Most kids hate raisons, but I love dried cranberries.

Re: Is there vegan Halloween candy?

Haha! My neighbors who are an older couple love us kids. They would give us each 2-3 grocery bags full of food. Usually things like oreos, chips, BAGS of candy, and anything else. At the bottom of one bag would be a toothbrush. They still give them to us even though none of us go trick or treating anymore.

^^^Don't worry, we'd split it all up so no one knew whose was whose and used them for afternoon snacks.

Re: Is there vegan Halloween candy?

I found a recipe for vegan candy corn a while ago. Not sure if it's a good idea, though, in case of fear of tampering. If you want them for yourself, though, of course there won't be a problem.

The Urban Housewife: Homemade Vegan Candy Corn = a Happy Halloween!

Maybe you can also put PETAkids stickers in the bags or other stickers. Maybe you can put little papers with guinea pig info on them, too.

If you can find some sort of little packs of Oreos, they're vegan, too.

Good luck.

I wish I could hand out candy, but no one ever comes up here. Maybe, just maybe, I'll try again, though. Last year, only a few people came up here, and they were my neighbors, who we had to tell about the candies.
