I know this is a silly question, but just wanted to be absolutely sure. The vegan society symbol is on a lot of the products I buy - shampoo, laundry powder, etc, and its one of my main criteria in choosing household products. I understand this to mean that the product does not contain anything derived from animals, OR tested on animals. But it does not specifically state that on the packaging - just wanted to check i understand this correctly? |

It means the product is completely vegan, meaning no animal products and no animal testing. Oh, and I just wanted to add, there are a ton of great shampoos, make up, conditioner, face wash etc., that are vegan as well but don't have the symbol. |

Thank you All of my products are not tested on animals - but vegan is an added bonus. Can you or anyone else reccommend a few good brand names? I've checked out the really comprehensive list, but would like to get a more personal recommendation. |

What kind of things are you looking for? Shampoo/conditioner, face products? I'd be happy to give you the brands I use and like. |

Thanks Laundry products, and make-up, particularly facial moisteuriser for greasy skin? Haven't found a good vegetarian (or vegan!) one of those - used to use 2 perfect lancome creams, they were beautiful, but tested on animals Presently using ecover laundry / dishes products, which i understand to be vegetarian, with most of their products being vegan. Urban decay - vege with some vegan products, and the body shop. Also drain cleaners? Mine gets clogged up with hair, and can't find any animal or even environment friendly uncloggers. Oh this is terrible - opportunity of solving my dilemmas without trawling through huge lists of companies & doing hours of net research - I'm asking no more questions for the time being - scared this could turn into a very very very long post Thanks again -all advice much appreciated! |

For laundry and dish products, Seventh Generation does not test on animals, and I believe they are vegan. Ecos is also good, but one if you do not want fabric softener in your laundry detegerent you need to make sure it is the Free and Clear ecos detergent. |

Try Lush.com for vegan face products, as well as alternative bar shampoos and stuff like that. They're not all vegan, but nothing is tested on animals and the stuff that's vegan is clearly labeled so. I have dry skin, so the moisturizer I use wouldn't be for you, but I imagine they have one for oily skin as well. If you don't want to order online, I'd suggest going to a Sephora and asking a sales person you're looking for a vegan face moisturizer for oily skin, and I guarantee they'll find you one. I went in there asking for a vegan eye primer for eyeshadow/eye makeup and they found it for me right away. For makeup, I love love love Urban Decay. Most of their eye shadows are vegan, and once again everything's labeled on the website vegan if it is and in some Sephora's it's labeled next to the product as well. No idea about the drain cleaner though, sorry. And like guineapigluver1 said, Seventh Generation has good vegan (I believe they are as well) cleaning products. |

Haven't been near a Lush for years - the closest one is 100 miles away on belfast. Although i am going that way tomorrow - hows that for great timing? And i do like my on-line shopping, must go explore |

I just found a vegan drain cleaner. ETA-Okay, since the link is not working (I keep copying and pasting it but it keeps showing up as the shopping cart?) Go to Vegan Essentials - Online Vegan Store - Vegan Products for cruelty-free living Click on Home Products, then Cleaning Products. It is Earthworm Family-Safe 100% Natural Drain Cleaner. |

Thank you!!!!! The drain cleaner has been bugging me for ages! Our shower clogs up every few months, and a manual clear out doesn't have much affect. Its the only tested on animals household product i buy. Very much appreciated! |

CitraSolv makes an amazing [vegan/non-animal tested] drain cleaner. But my fave is home-made. It dates back to the Science Fair days.. pour about half a cup of baking soda down the drain. Follow with about a cup of vinegar. Repeat as necessary. You can also use baking soda and boiling water, if you're in a pinch/out of vinegar. It has a similar effect. As for maintenance, a kettle's worth of boiling water every couple of weeks works for me. |
