mostly veggie, but bit of a dilema!

Ok, I will explain....

...Myself and my daughter are mostly veggie. We occasionally have organig free range meat, but that is the only meat I will buy and it is expensive so pretty much veggie, and we will be totally veggie soon enough.

my problem is my daughter isn't even two, and her dad insists on giving her meats and stuff full of gelatine (sweets, foods etc).

What can I do? Do I just let him get on with it, and when she is old enough to make a choice herself then let her tell her dad herself?

Re: mostly veggie, but bit of a dilema!

My personal feeling is that as long as the animal had a truly good, natural life, a pasture life, and was raised on a small-scale operation [even better if you know/get to know the farmer personally], then it's fine to eat once in a while. Humans aren't adapted to consume as much meat as we [Americans, generally] do. A serving in two or three meals per week is plenty.

On that note, because I know I'm going to get raaaged at for saying the above, the reason that I don't eat meat is because I couldn't kill an animal and then eat it. I think that it's cowardly to pay someone else to do my dirty work. The environmental, health and whatever other benefits are just along for the ride.

Bah! I just realized you were asking about sweets too. That stuff is bad for her anyways, generally, so maybe you should just go with that argument instead of it not being veg?

I do go with it beinbg bad for her, but the argument I get back is it's only once in a while it's fine!

I know I could kill whatever I am eating...I watched a goat being killed a few years ago when I was in Namibia! Couldn't help to kill it or anything because all the guys wanted to do it!

Re: mostly veggie, but bit of a dilema!

If your the main caregiver for your daughter then shouldn't you control what she eats even when she's not with you?

I would have a talk with her dad about why your doing it. Because think about it, it would be harder to turn veggie when you've lived your whole life eating meat than it is the other way around since obivously, meat is more an abundance than vegatarian food. When she is old enough, I would ask her what she wants to do.

Just one more thing, the defonition of free range is:
Quote:
(of livestock and domestic poultry) permitted to graze or forage for grain, etc., rather than being confined to a feedlot or a small enclosure: a free-range pig.
Now really, all this means is that they can shove even more animals into a paddock instead of having a "house" for them. Free range is a gimick to get people trying to do good to spend more on food.

This might shine some light on things.

I know free range isn't great, but free range + organic must be better?

I sometimes get it from www.abelandcole.co.uk

Personally I have never heard of that store.

I still eat eggs and such so I know I shouldn't be one to talk about free range and organic and how horrible it is but atleast I know about it until I can become vegan.

Yeh, I know about it but neither me or my daughter eat enough veggies to get all the protein we need. We only have it a few times a week (we're talking twice, maybe three times if we eat out or at a friends). The only meat I buy is free range organic so I can't afford to buy much of it even if I wanted to!
