We found out back in May that my cholestorol is a bit high, which I wasn't suprised at, seeing as my Unlce and Grandpa and my dad have problems with it. I was thinking about possibly going somewhat vegan, no more milk just rice or nut milk (I can't stand soy milk), no more cream cheese, I'll try the soy stuff (I love cream cheese so we will see how that turns out), the one thing I would still eat would be vegetarian cheese because soy cheese is nasty, and soy butter. My mom makes our own yogurt and I could get her to make it with rice or nut milk for me. The only thing is every night I drink milk (it has something that helps you get to sleep) and a carb snack because it helps me sleep and I have a hard time getting to sleep, any ideas about that? Would doing all of this help lower my cholestorol? Oh, I am in the process of all my products going vegan. I still have some things to go (for myself, as well as trying with everyone else in my family's stuff), my mom is trying to find acne stuff more natural then what my brother has now, and I am trying to find something vegan that isn't to pricey. As well as the household hand soap, dishwasher detergent, dishwashing liquid, and laundry detergent, but I'm working on my mom. One question, I know Seventh Generation products are vegetarian, but are they vegan? |

My dh has issues with his cholestorol. He was told by his doctor: "Eat nothing from a cow." No meat, milk, cheese, ice cream. Now we do have the occasional ice cream cone. But no meat, no milk and his cholestorol is within normal ranges now. We also have cut out "mammal" meat from our diet- it's a start, anyway, we eat fish/fowl/veggies, etc. If we went completely vegetarian, I'm not sure what my 2 and 4 yr olds would eat, really. Though they do love a lot of the morning star soy "meat" products, like the sausage patties and links for b'fast. Anyway, good luck with the chol. |

You should speak with your doctor about the best way to lower your cholesterol. Often times, it requires a multi-dimensional approach that includes a total overhaul of your diet, rather than just the elimination of a few select products, and the inclusion of more exercise. These are things that should be determined by a collaborative plan between you and your health care provider. |

Seeking out a nutritionist might give you more consultation than your doctor. They are professionals that work out this sort of stuff often and will give you more feedback. Usually they work with the things that you like to eat when you get a good one. They are like a guide, but in the end, most of the everyday thought to what is best is on your behalf. |

You should not undertake any diet or major exercise plan without first discussing it with your doctor. Your doctor can refer you to a nutritionist/dietitian. |

I'm very positive that cutting out all animal products (excpet for the occasional ice cream), would make it normal. My mom used to be a P.A. and she just started me taking flaxseed oil, and I sprinkle flaxseed on a lot of stuff, my mom puts it in all the bread she makes, too. It's only a few pints (or whatever you want to call it) higher then it needs to be. It would probably be worse if I wasn't a vegetarian. We went to Earth Fare today and they have Tofutti products, so next week after I get home from camp (I leave tomorrow), we are going to get almond milk, soy cream cheese, and soy butter from there, I'm also going to ask my mom to get more cheese because I'm all out of vegetarian cheese. It is going to be impossible to eat vegetarian (cheese-wise) at camp though. |

Really, guineapigluver? At the camp I attend, there is a large salad bar that is always available, and each meal also has a vegetarian alternative. If you ask about it, you might find that they offer an alternative to the meat-filled meals, and I'm sure they will if you ask. |

Nope, they didn't have the salad bar always available, only for some meals, and one time it was for staff only. So I ended up not eating that much (I'm very picky) and at the meals where I liked something I ate a ton (most breakfastes I ate what they had). And my sister forced me to eat some stuff I hated, but only within what she knew was vegetarian. So, I told my mom next year I either need like $80.00 for the snack shack, ask them to offer the salad bar at every meal (not for breakfast, but for lucnh and dinner), or bring my own meals which is allowed if you have some allergy problem or other. Oh, when I said "pints higher" I meant points, sorry about that. |
