Did you hear that Peta asked Ben and Jerry ice cream to stop using cow milk and start using human breast milk? Peta Link Here. |

*shudder* I do believe demand will outstrip supply-if they actually swapped. Which they obviously won't. Who even thought of that anyway. It's just as "un natural" as (in their eyes) drinking cows milk is... |

Yea. If they want to get away from cow milk, why not use soy milk? |

Now that is a way to get a person to stop eating ice cream. I made some really good ice cream from almond milk. It is better than cows milk. |

Yeah, I just can't picture that happening. While it would be awesome if Ben & Jerry's would produce a soy based line of ice creams, I am guessing breast milk isn't in their business plan for the upcoming year. I would, however, be interested in that almond milk ice cream recipe. I'm not a big fan of almond milk by itself (I prefer rice or soy milk), but I'll bet with some flavors added it would be yummy. |

There is a sticky thread at the top of the Vegetarian section of the forum labeled "Vegetarian Recipes". Feel free to add your almond milk ice cream recipe there if you'd like. |

Almond milk is made from ground almonds, so definitely lactose free. I would imagine the "ice cream" made from it would have a slightly naturally nutty taste. Sounds good to me. I'd definitely try it. |

Also try these: http://www.tofutti.com/c-v.shtml The chocolate ones are my favorite. And I have read that ridiculous article. I wonder what the people from PETA are trying to do exactly. I keep wondering if they are just joking around or something. |

That was in our local paper. They said they realized it was out of the way but they don't want cows to suffer! Cows don't suffer from getting milked do they? I would rather be a dairy cow than the other! I think soy milk would be a good idea! I personally love milk. I don't drink anything else except juice and water. My sister and I go through a gallon a day! |

Dairy cows absolutely do suffer. They are forced to endure pregnancy after pregnancy, each time their babies are taken away to either be dairy cows (females) or veal (males). The milk that is supposed to go to those calves instead go to humans. Imagine if you had a child and very soon after that child had been born, he or she was forcefully taken away from you. I doubt that is a very good feeling. The cows are also given hormones to produce unnaturally large amounts of milk. They are milked relentlessly their entire short lives. Cows can live up to 20 years, but these cows are "spent" after 2-4 years and are sent to be slaughtered. They usually end up in fast food and school lunches. You should watch the Humane Society's video that was taken of a collapsed dairy cow. She was unable to move so people sprayed water in her face, prodded her, and tried to push her with a forklift. These poor animals experience the same fate as cows slaughtered for meat. But they are also hooked up to machines, forced to give birth multiple times, and then robbed of their offspring, who also either get slaughtered or are forced into milk production. So yes, dairy cows suffer. Quite a bit actually. http://www.peta.org/factsheet/files/...lay.asp?ID=102 http://www.peta.org/mc/factsheet_display.asp?ID=98 http://www.hsus.org/farm/news/ournew...ws_020108.html http://peacefulprairie.blogspot.com/...gan-world.html |
