Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 I stopped eating meat about 3 months ago and i'm so proud of myself. I've never been a huge meat eater, so it wasn't very hard for me at all. I've replaced things I loved (chicken tenders, bacon, tacos) with MorningStar products. I can't even tell the difference. I've been getting a lot of slack from my in-laws. My sister in law totally flipped out on me when I told her I quit eating meat. She called me crazy and laughed at me because I said it was because I don't want animals to die so that I can eat them. She takes it as a big joke. It really ticked me off big time. We had a zoo trip planned for today and she calls me up last week to tell me how her mom was making ham sandwiches for everyone to eat at the zoo and she had to tell her mom that she can't make those because I won't eat them, and everyone was wondering why I wasn't eating meat. I said she can still make those, but we will bring our own food (myself, husband and daughter). What is the big deal? It is just so stupid. I don't see the bad part of me and my daughter not eating meat, why does it effect anyone else. It is our business. Ahhh, so glad to find other vegetarians here. I'm working my way towards becoming vegan, but one step at a time. |

Welcome I usually don't engage with people who are just trying to get under my skin. Usually they back off when you are nothing but polite and sweet- they'll tire of not being able to bait you. Eventually they will get on with life and not make your decision the center of it. Congrats on your choice! |

I honestly think a lot of people feel convicted when they hear that someone has become a vegetarian. Especially when they hear it's for the reason you stated and not health reasons. I think they become offensive as a defense, attacking you to make themselves feel less guilty. Of course, that's my opinion. |

I'm sorry your in-law(s) want to act childish and immature about your decision about being a vegetarian. Some people live in a close minded view of the world and feel the need to be defensive or even offensive about things they don't understand. Just be the better person and not give in to their baiting. Congrats on your choice, I wish you the best. |
