*sighs* I can't, for the life of me, find toothpaste that doesn't test on animals (I want to get Kiss My Face toothpaste but the closest store that carries Kiss My Face products is almost an hour away), and I've tried Toms of Maine, but I absolutely hate it. I've already got hair stuff almost figured out (hair gel, and conditioner, but not leave-in), and body stuff (I just found some deodorant), but not toothpaste. |

Tom's of Maine is owned by Colgate anyway, a company that I believe tests on animals. |

If you are also looking for a shampoo, there is a new line of hair products out called Samy. I don't know if they all are, but Samy Pure is in a pink bottle(shampoo and conditioner) and its completely vegan. |

I buy most of my stuff at Whole Foods, (including toothpaste and toothbrush) so you might want to start there if there is one near by. I know Target carries a lot of Kiss My Face stuff too. But a lot of the ones that I've tried have an acquired taste. Just stay away from Nature's Gate. It stained my toothbrush green! But there are a lot of other products that don't test on animals that you can look out for. For instance a lot of salons and spas carry shampoos and conditioners that are cruelty-free. Some are vegan too, you just have to look. I'm still in the process of looking for a vegan deodorant that is also an anti-perspirant. Most of the ones that I've tried out aren't and they also aren't "fragrance free" even though they say they are. So if anybody knows of a good one, let me know! |

I've actually just thought of a brand of vegan toothpaste-I believe it's called Jason. I saw it at Walmart of all places recently. |

Mitchum for Women is accidentally vegan. It's also an anti-perspirant and I think there is a fragrance free version. |

Toadies, your supposed to only use hair gel, and conditioner (just make sure there aren't any igredients ending in cone i.e dimethicone amodimethicone etc. they give your hair shine, but in the long run make your hair dull, and weigh down your hair, at least curly and wavy haired people), you can use leave-in conditioner, and cremes to, but wavy haired people can use shampoo once a week, and also no brushing (you get the tangles out in th shower preferably with your fingers, but you can use a wide toothed comb. Here check out this website: Naturallycurly.com: Where curls come to life! Also check out the forum, and Curly Girl: The Handbook by Lorraine Massey. So Wal-Mart has a brand of toothpaste called Jasons? I'll check it out next time I'm there. I'm going to try Mitchum's is it any good? |

Mitchum is good because it actually works. I sweat like a normal human being, so the more natural stuff doesn't work for me. I go to school in seattle and I walk A LOT, carrying heavy bags full of art supplies, so after a while...yeah. I would sweat and I would stink. Kiss My Face gave me a bad reaction and everything else just did not work. Mitchum works almost as well as Secret, in my opinion. It's a mainstream brand and it has the evil aluminum, so it's pretty good. Jason's isn't Walmart's brand, it's a natural brand but I saw it at Walmart the last time I was there along with Kiss My Face. You can also find it at natural food stores. There's a store called Marlene's Market and Deli here in Tacoma that sells all kinds of vegan stuff (including makeup!) mostly because they are super into selling things natural and organic so if you can find a store like that in your area you'd be set. |

Okay, than I will be trying Mitchum's. I hope it works better than Secret, that's what I have currently and I still sweat a little. Wal-Mart has Kiss My Face products? I want to try there lip balm, toothpaste, and sunscreen (even though it's pricey, I rarely wear sunscreen). Pure Silk shaving cream claims to not test on animals, is that true? |

They say they don't test on animals, so I think you're good. I was very amazed to find Kiss My Face at Walmart. I mean, I always think of Walmart as one of those big stores that has everything but has less of a selection than a specialty store, so I don't expect them to have much more than things like Pantene and Maybelline. I was just as suprised when I found Alba (vegan brand) stuff at Rite Aid. |

Mitchum's has glycerin in it. Do you know that it's plant derived, i.e. vegetable glycerin? I was going to use Almay's deodorant, but since it also has glycerin I decided to wait until I could find out if it's vegan. Target also is starting to carry a lot of vegan-friendly products too, like Alba, Jason's, Kiss My Face, Preserve (great toothbrushes!), Method, and even Seventh Generation. |

From what I have read, yes. I am going to email the company to make absolutely sure, but I don't know how successful that will be since I tried the same thing with Chanel and just ended up talking in circles with their automated email system. |

Okay, than thats what I'll be getting, I was hoping that Satin Care didn't test on animals (since that's what I was using), but I sort of figured that they did. I hope our Wal-Mart has Kiss My Face products! |

How do you guys handle this? I was asking about a leave-in conditioner that doesn't test on animals, and this one person comes up and says it doesn't really matter because there was some point in the process where it was, I'm tired of hearing people say this, so why don't they just leave us alone? |

I don't really know, and I am suspicious about Bath and Body Works for this. They say the "finished product is not tested on animals," but that doesn't necessarily mean that it wasn't at some point tested during production. I don't think that a company would outright lie about their animal testing policy, though. I got this quote from PETA, I hope it helps: "To a degree, the statement of assurance is a matter of trust. However, companies are putting their integrity on the line when they respond to consumers. A company that has publicly announced an end to its animal tests and states in writing that it doesn’t test on animals would face a public relations disaster (and potential lawsuits) if it were caught testing on animals. Companies are well aware that consumers are serious about the issue of animal testing, and they know that it would ruin the public’s confidence in their products if it were discovered that they were being dishonest about their animal-testing policies." This especially goes for companies that are heavily advertised as cruelty free, like Kiss My Face, elf cosmetics, etc. Just be careful with brands like Tom's of Maine, which are not tested on animals and contain no animal byproducts, but are owned by a company that tests. Your money would still be going to a company that tests on animals. Last edited by rxqueen; 06-25-08 at 06:33 pm. Reason: Wanted to add another thought. |

Mmm hmm. I wouldn't buy Tom's of Maine even though that specifically doesn't test on animals, but your money still goes to a company that tests on animals. My mom a LONG time ago got a gift basket from someone that was Bath and Body works, and I found some hand lotion the other day from that, and it say right on the back "the finished product is not tested on animals" which basically means that it WAS tested in the making. |

Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 I use NutriBiotic non-soap skin cleanser. It's for sensitive, normal to oily skin. I have the original...with aloe vera - it's also hypo allergenic, and PH balanced. It's economical and doesn't test on any animals. I'm not sure of the cost, since I didn't buy it. The following link has this soap, but in a bigger container than what I have: NutriBiotic Non-Soap Skin Cleanser Fresh Fruit Or Original Compare Prices This link is the size I have, very useful: Skin Cleanser, Non Soap with Grapefruit Seed Extract, Original - 16 fl. oz. I'd really really recommend this brand. But I haven't seen it in stores. And this link shows other NutriBiotic products: NutriBiotic |
