Vegan Troubles

I have been vegetarian for five months now, and I have been trying to go vegan. It's just so hard for me though! I have a serious problem: a dangerously high metabolism. It's so bad that I have to sneak food in my classes because I can't wait until break or lunch or after school. I hate it SO MUCH. Also, I have tried eating strictly vegan, but then I almost faint (especially becuase we have very little vegan foods in my house.) Is there a vegan diet that has a lot of fiber and keeps you satisfied or something? It doesn't matter if I have to eat frequently, because I already eat at least every hour. Anything for animals, though.

P.S. I already got rid of all my non-vegan clothes, accessories, body products, ect. It's just the food that I have [a lot of] trouble with.

Re: Vegan Troubles

Perhaps you need to talk to a nutritionist or a dietician or a doctor. You also probably need to increase the amount of fat you eat. Fat is generally what creates the feeling of satiation.

Re: Vegan Troubles

What have your doctors said about this? I second the nutritionist idea. Just be aware that not all are up to date on vegan nutrition; you might have to do some shopping around.

About how many calories do you consume in a day (in a typical day when you feel well)? Can you give an idea of the types of foods you eat?

If you want extra calories, fat is a good way to go. It has more than double the calories of carbs or protein per gram. Try eating fatty stuff like avocado and nuts. Cook using extra canola oil.

If you eat that frequently, stabilizing blood sugar might not be as big an issue, and more carbs with less fiber might be ok?

Only vegan foods have fiber (unless you count bird feathers and stuff). Try whole grains, legumes, fruits, vegetables. Don't peel when possible as that's where most of the nutrients and fiber are.

It does sux the way humans in this culture usually insist on 3 meals a day with maybe a snack. Frugivores in general do best when grazing. Not the way herbivores do, but certainly not 3 large meals a day. I used to be able to do it, but now I eat when I feel hungry, and it works a lot better.

I suggest you read up on nutrition and stock your house with foods ideal for your body, including things you can easily take with you and eat quickly.
