I was diagnosed with Hemiplegic migraines when I was 8 years old. For those who don't know what that is it is like a temporary stroke. I lose some control over one side of my body, have extreme difficulty speaking and trouble with all thought processes. Thank God they are very few and far between. If I catch them quick enough I can avoid some of these symptoms but the headaches are excruciating. I had a migraine a couple of weeks ago and when I did my husband printed out this article from Advanced Family Health.com about Vegetarianism and Body Chemistry that stated that this can be a result of a vegetarian diet. I tried to look this up on the interent and I haven't been able to find any more supporting evidence. Has anyone else heard of this? I haven't been to a doctor lately to ask. If anyone knows of this, how can I head it off if this is the case? Along the same lines has anyone heard of multi vitamins specifically designed for vegetarians? Maybe to supplement some specifics that us vegetarians are commonly in need of? I looked at GNC but didn't see any. They make vitamins for everything else. Thanks for the advice. |

I don't understand - the hemiplegic migraines are the result of a vegetarian diet? How long have you been a vegetarian? Are you vegetarian or vegan? Do you eat mostly junk food? Mostly starch? Mostly soy? As for vitamins, I don't think that there's anything special a vegetarian should need that any other person doesn't need ... at least, not as long as you're eating a normal, balanced diet and not a junk food based diet. |

No, the hemiplegic migraines are a condition that I seem to have been born with. This article my husband found implied that vegetarian diets can trigger migraines. My mom actually says she believes I was suffering migraines from an infant. I have had several terrible "attacks" which led to me being hospitalized when I was 8 years old and diagnosed (after numerous tests) with hemiplegic migraine. Unfortunately, migraines run in my family. I'm vegetarian, not vegan. Last edited by Newpiggiemom; 05-09-08 at 01:07 pm. Reason: forgot something |
