Re: veg :)

Here, I'll show you advocacy...

I've been eating vastly less to no meat for the last few weeks. I've lost 6 pounds.

There. 15 women just thought "oooO!O!?" Not really, but the point is sometimes maybe we do focus too much on preaching and not reaching the individual with things that reach them... I'm really bad about this, because I am somewhat jaded and it interferes with trying to convert anyone to anything by a method I don't see as the "right reason."

I do training at work on computer programs and processes. In every class, we have a few people who are not reached by conventional methods. I adapt my training method specifically to them and find a way to get them to understand by the end of the class. But some of us don't do that at all with regards to animal issues, myself included.

Just rambling.

IF all that reaches someone about a veg*n diet is weight loss, then the change is not one that will stick because there will come a point where weight loss will cease ...

I see your point, to a degree, but if the concept of animal rights doesn't reach people, then it doesn't reach people. Sometimes people are vegan for other reasons - health, religion, whatever. I don't give a rats ass why they don't eat meat, as long as they don't, personally.

But from an advocacy standpoint, those people who don't eat meat for other reasons aren't really advocates.

And yes CF, I'm well versed in your views on perfection, hypocrisy and the like. But you have to admit that telling someone that animals have the same rights as people, etc. while chowing down on bacon might not quite ring true.

Maybe it's a gateway drug! Heh... I'm being overly hopeful because it's a nice day out. Susan, let me have my moment! *whine*

Weight loss actually is a concern for me. I have a health problem that doesn't always leave me much poundage to spare.

This is where I get confused! While I totally agree with with the above statement, I don't see anyone doing this and/or saying they think it rings true. I read a few things that sounded more like a little hypocrisy is unavoidable...and there are worse things. I don't think the intent was to say a huge hypocrisy like preaching about animals being equal to humans while intentionally and consistantly stuffing your face with them is okay. Perhaps I missed it, or perhaps there is a backstory I don't know. More and more I'm learning that I know nothing of the complex relations of the guinea pig universe and its history via forums. And I'm not sure I want to!

People kill people a lot, to take whatever resource they have. I hope that helps...
