Re: Kosher meat killed humanely? (includes videos) :'( That is horrible. Not only for the poor cows, but that there are people who are ok with doing that to them. Makes me sad.

Re: Kosher meat killed humanely? (includes videos) That sickens me, I really feel like crying. How can parents bring up their children believing that cruelty like that can be justified? I showed the "Not in your name" video from Viva in my RE class on two occasions - some people actually laughed as they watched the chicks beaks being cut, and the pigs have their teeth and tails removed. Others seemed to be affected by what they saw, but I noticed that they still had burgers or sausages for lunch. I think I'll ask to show the PETA clips next time..maybe they'll have a bigger effect.

Re: Kosher meat killed humanely? (includes videos) I watched that for 20 seconds and had to close it. I was sickened I can't believe a rabbi would approve a cow torturing slaughterhouse like that. How they let the blood drain from the cows while they are alive to probably save salt is disgusting.

Re: Kosher meat killed humanely? (includes videos) I know, it's terrible. It needs to get out there, I've told many people to watch these videos. One of my friends actually went vegetarian with me after watching Meet your Meat! I was really thrilled. It's a much-concealed fact of life, I'm sad to say. I just hope that someday everyone knows what happens behind closed doors.

Re: Kosher meat killed humanely? (includes videos) What I still don't understand is what rabbi would approve of such a place? Rabbis have to approve kosher slaughterhouses before they can be called kosher.

Re: Kosher meat killed humanely? (includes videos) order the 'animals are not ours to eat' dvd from the peta website. everyone i have shown it to has gone veg. if you can watch that dvd and still eat meat, there is something terribly wrong. sadly, though, most people do not want to watch it. http://www.petacatalog.org/prodinfo.asp?number=VP533&variation=&aitem=6&mitem =35

Re: Kosher meat killed humanely? (includes videos) For slaughter to be "kosher", the blood must drain from the animal. It is required in the Torah. (Old Testament) If it does not drain, the meat is unfit for human consumption. Kosher simply means that the animal is slaughtered and the meat processed in a manner prescribed by Jewish law, which has its foundations in the Old Testament.

Re: Kosher meat killed humanely? (includes videos) I was just a bit to afraid of what I might see on those videos so I took the chicken way and read the description. That alone disturbed me quite bad. My mum grew up on a dairy and cattle farm. My grandparents ran it. I know that at least while the animals were on the farm they were kept well. I remember visiting when I was younger. I also hope it is that way throughout most of Australia. Farming is something I take a great interest in. But I was not aware what exactly goes on in the slaughterhouse. The rabbi doesn't necassarily need to be aware of how the workers kill the cows as long as the cows are killed and left to drain. That makes them kosher. I do not eat lamb as a result of research I have done into the live export trade and also the few farms I have been too quite shocked me. My boyfriends grandparents run a sheep farm, they have a shearing shed and off that another shed whith various hooks suspended from the roof, a metal grill is the floor, everyhitng is rusty but apparently they still slaughter the occasional sheep for a meal. He described how, once the sheep was dead they would hook it up by it's legs and skin the carcass(sp) Chicken I can somehow justify though slowly I have been trying to put myself off it, I know what terrible conditions they can be kept in. Now I imagine it will be a lot harder to try to eat beef. I'm sorry that I am not a vegetarian, I seem to lack will power. But believe me, now I am going to try a whole lot harder and I will try to watch those videos. I can't believe I have been so naive, or so willing to believe what is in my head that I can't see the truth.

Re: Kosher meat killed humanely? (includes videos) That's really cool, Quiet Things! I never thought I'd do it, but I can have practically anything I want in soy versions. It's the coolest thing I've ever done. Not to pressure you or anything, that's really not the point here. As long as you understand what's going on, that's the main thing. Good luck with whatever you choose!
