Thumbs down Noooooo

I'm a vegetarian (not vegan) and I just had a Vitality and I've had about five before in the last few months - pressuming they were vegetarian! They aren't

It does say on the back "not suitable for vegetarian" which is good of them to point it out but I never have yoghurts and thought of them as vegetarian. Damm. A year of being a vege has now gone to waste.

Re: Noooooo

Ive done that before. I have been offered sweets and only to realize after taking one bite that they have geletin(sp?) in them. I decided to spit the rest out.

Re: Noooooo

Yeah my mum brought me some marshmellows and when I looked it said gelatin so I spat it out into the full bag haha opps Luckerily I'm not a big sweet eater and my favourites were Haribo and I havent had them because obviously they are just coloured gelatin. But blurgh I hate it when this happens. I might just scrap this year of being veggie and start today and be 100x more careful !

Re: Noooooo

That happened to me about a year ago (March 9th).. I had been a vegetarian for almost 2 years and suddenly realized one day, while popping an altoid into my mouth, that there was gelatin in them. That was my first and last thing of altoids (but I had already eaten most of them). From then on I read the ingredients on EVERYTHING.. I started over from then.. So.. One more month and I will have been a vegetarian (completely) for a year! Woot! I can't wait until March 10th.. I am going to try and convince my grandparents to go with me to eat downtown at a Vegan restaurant..

Re: Noooooo

Its not a waste --

I think its honestly stupid when people say things like that, no offense.

You are a vegan for the purpose of taking a stand, saving animals, ect.

And guess what? You have and you do. Each and every day. How is that possibly a waste? Seriously. Yeah, so what, you didn't know it wasn't vegetarian -- so now you know. But don't demean all the dedication and work you have put into this kind of lifestyle for the past 2 years.

And plus, just because you fudge once or twice and even 10 times, it doesn't mean you aren't a vegetarian anymore at "you have to start over", that is just plain silliness. You are a vegetarian at heart and in life. Everyone messes up once in a while. But don't demean all the work and sacrifice you have put into it.

I know this seems passionately state, because it is. It upsets me when people say such things. I am a vegetarian and I am proud of it. Do I screw up and eat dairy every time and again --yep. But that doesn't make my sacrifices and hard work a waste.

Try thinking of all the good you have done instead of saying its a "waste" because its nothing even close to a waste.

Re: Noooooo

Please don't think of it as a waste! Just cutting a little meat out of your diet helps a lot, so it wasn't a waste just because of a little mistake. Don't worry, there have been many times where that has happened to me. I would eat something before reading the ingredients, or continue eating something because I assumed it would be vegetarian. For example a candy I had already eaten turned out to have gelatin in it, a brand of mints I would eat had it, and frosted Pop-Tarts which I would eat often! ...... Sure, I felt guilty and a little disappointed, but look at the difference you're making as a whole! Your life style as a vegetarian is saving animals, and a little mistake here and there isn't going to change that.

Re: Noooooo

Thanks, but I'm just a perfectionist and yes it may seem stupid and I will still tell people I've been a vege for that year but I just kind of know I haven't been a particularry good one because god knows what else I have eaten that has had geletin in it and that I have presummed okay.

Re: Noooooo

Hey Char-x, I have had that problem with yogurt and marshmellows also. And I thought I would tell you so you wont be discouraged.......some yogurt has Kosher Gelatin in it. And that is fine for a vegetarian to eat. Just thought I should point that out.

Gelatin is a translucent, colourless, brittle, nearly tasteless solid substance, extracted from the collagen inside animals' connective tissue. It commonly comes from cows, pigs, and horses.

Kosher or not, it's NOT vegetarian.

Check out the candy at your local health food store. There is a gelatin made that is vegan.I have a vegan store here on the island. There are lots of good candies that are veggie and vegan. You can even get vegan marshmallows. They are bigger and square but good.

Re: Noooooo

i've been a vegetarian for 10 years 4 months. vegan on and off for about 9 years. and apparently, i accidently ate sausage stuffing for thanksgiving leftovers the year before last.... the good news is i didn't get sick... and to be honest... it tasted like plain stuffing... weird. did i stop saying i was veggie? nope. i've had chicken broth soups by mistake a LOT! french fries cooked in lard. it's hard cuz it's everywhere... but you go and u look at the big picture.... and it's ok... because you're trying your hardest! congrats to everyone hear for taking that first step and the many steps after!
