You mean gelatin as in Jello?
Yes, Jello is the brand name for gelatin.

Re: Noooooo

Not exactly. Jello CONTAINS gelatin, but so do many other things. Gummy bears, pop-tarts, some yogurts, some sour creams, some butter-alternatives.

Re: Noooooo

What is gelatin? How is it connected to animal cruelty??

I'm thinking of becoming vegetarian, so it would probably help to know that

It would also help if you read some of the previous posts. The whole thread has been mainly about the topic of gelatin.

Gelatin is animal bones and tissue commonly found in Jello, Pop-Tarts, candy, some yogurt, some salad dressings, etc. It's obviously not vegetarian. There are many alternatives.

That's great that you're thinking about becoming a vegetarian!

Striving to be perfect is good. Failing at having a "perfect streak" isn't bad. The lack of a continuous streak does not mean you're not a vegetarian. If I had a penny for every skittle and gummy bear I ate out of ignorance after I thought I'd managed to avoid gelatin I could buy this website. It made me sick when I realized it, but I still consider myself vegetarian for that first year when I was still eating that stuff.

The only non-vegetarian gelatin that can be kosher comes from fish. Gelatin that comes from kosher animals is derived from parts of the animal that aren't considered kosher, even though the animal is killed according to kosher law. The only reason there are no rules regarding fish (and why they're parve) is because kosher law discriminates against fish so badly that it doesn't even consider them animals. That's why the gelatin from fish bones can be eaten with any kosher food, but gelatin from cow bones is prohibited.
