I went vegan awhile back, around April, and ever since then I feel the need to eat constantly. I always get plently of fat, the good fat, to stay full, but it never last more than an hour or so. Has this happened to anyone else and if so, how was the problem fixed? |

Animal based foods stay in our guts much longer than plant based foods which is why some non-veggies claim to feel more "full" or "satisfied" when they eat meat compared to veggie foods. Have a look at the herbivores in your house, your piggies! You'll notice that they eat all the time too. The good thing about being vegan is the ability to eat as much as you want when you want of all the good non-processed foods. I find snacking on raw fruit and veggies throughout the day to be a good way of doing it as well as eating things like bombay mix and unsalted nuts, or hummus on crackers and so on. And if you drink a lot more water this also helps as we feel hungry when we are thirsty. |

Higher protein and fiber counts could help too. Fiber bulks up in your stomach and protein takes longer to digest. You can get a veggie list of proteins- peas, beans, tofu Fibers- Lots of cereals have high fiber counts. Pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds etc are also good. They have fat and protein. |

Be sure to eat enough protein with each meal, too ... that will help you stay satisfied longer as well. |

Drink more water. Sometimes when the body feels hungry, you're not actually hungry for food- you're dehydrated and your body's craving water. So instead of unnecessary snacking, just drink some good old H2O! |

I second the above-- Drink more water. This is a little gross, but your urine should be nearly transparent and odorless. 8 cups a day is a myth, it all depends on your specific body's needs. Also, make sure you have something to eat in the morning. It could be a banana, a slice of toast, a handful of peanuts, etc. If you starve yourself in the morning you'll be SUPER hungry later in the day. |

A good high fibre breakast is the most important meal of the day and helps to keep hunger at bay. Eating healthy wholegrain foods helps to combat snacking. |

If it makes you feel any better, I'm not vegan and I'm always hungry too. I'm thinking of adding timothy hay to my diet. (<--kidding) |

I'm starting to think eating constantly is part of the diet, but I'll probably call my doctor for a reference to a nutritionist, just to be safe. Thanks for all the advice. |
