| What do you think of when someone says Thanksgiving? Turkey. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, about 45 million turkeys are cooked and eaten on Thanksgiving. That's 45 million turkeys that are bred only to be eaten . Last year, 2.7 billion pounds of turkey was processed in the U.S. So, weather you already were planning to have a vegan/vegetarian Thanksgiving, or are heading toward veg*nism, at least consider having a vegetarian/vegan Thanksgiving this year. ![]() Here are some links for vegan and vegetarian recipes. | Re: A turkey-free thanksgiving! I didn't have a tofurkey but a vegetarian "turkey" roast. It was actually pretty good, I liked it. And I made some vegetarian gravy to go with it. |

| The problem isnt people eating turkey its how the frmers need to sell turkeys to keep there household going. My Uncle used to raise turkeys and they were in a spacius area given natural food and plenty of exercise and were all 2-3 years old. If your going to eat a turkey just make sure it says organic on the label. That means it was raied in a good enviornment to be eaten as most mass turkeys and cramped in tight spaced and given sterioids.(sorry about rambiling on and on) Anyway, if you have to eat a turkey just go organic. | Re: A turkey-free thanksgiving! For many people the problem is exactly eating turkeys, i.e. that it is wrong to kill an animal for pleasure. Kudos to everyone who had a turkey free thanksgiving! I'm sure many of the turkeys who are rescued every year from slaughter were thankful ![]() |

| Re: A turkey-free thanksgiving! That's great that your uncle raised those turkeys well, but unfortunately not many turkeys are raised on small farms but rather in factories with not so great care. And to everyone who had a turkey-free thanksgiving: the turkeys thank you!! ![]() -gobble gobble- |

| Re: A turkey-free thanksgiving! your right they all arent raised in thoes enviornments but most who are killed normally in a butcher arent killed for pleasure just food. We just have a few sickheaded people in the world who get pleasure from it and i bet the terkeys were thankful for being rescued. ~my piggies like salad~ |

| Re: A turkey-free thanksgiving! I've had a turkey free Thanksgiving for the past 16 years! I usually just cook a tofurky or sometimes we will just have an italian meal instead of the traditional meal. If I go over to a family members house or something I will have all of the sides, it's plenty of food and I'm usually the only one awake after Thanksgiving dinner! It's amazing to be the only one not eating turkey and the only one not falling asleep after dinner! |

| Re: A turkey-free thanksgiving! ha ha, yes!! I had plenty of energy after my Thanksgiving veggies, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes and bread. I just got really bored because everyone else was slobbering all over themselves in recliners. |
