| Re: Need help with a little project I'm doing! Companions? And also the fact that animals existance shouldn't be about whether humans need them or not...most the animals on the earth where here way before us, so really we should be asking how they need us since we are the ones who are murdering their habitats, and slowely polluting our earth so much we'r likely to destroy evolutions work in a single flash (in evolutions time terms). Also milk = death for calves so maybe thats not a strong point. xx |

| Re: Need help with a little project I'm doing! Eggs also equals death for male chicks, and wool production also has it's fair amount of cruelty as well. Not to mention the fact that all the animals you mentioned have shortened lives and suffer illnesses throughout. Humans don't need animals, animals certainly don't need us. And neither of us needs the cruelty that we make them suffer from. |

| Re: Need help with a little project I'm doing! The actual way it happens is: All the fertile eggs with chicks in go to be hatched (male or female) , then the chickens panic and lay un-fertile eggs these eggs would never have been chicks then these are shipped of to super markets and they are the eggs we eat, meanwhile the chicks are hatched and when they are 4-24 hours old they are sexed into groups (male and female), the females go to chicken farmers for eggs, the males are gassed to be killed (more like heavy sleeping gas, this is a peacefull way for them to be killed), then the males are shipped of for....well many reasons..frozen to be hawk food is what usually happens. So the eggs we eat are not and were never going to be chicks. |

Hens will lay eggs whether or not they have a rooster around. Just like you continue to produce eggs even if you are not procreating. We pass ours through our cycle, they just pass theirs. We have yard chickens and gather eggs from the roost boxes daily. Anywhere from 6-24. They free roam and we feed them a good quality pellet and they also get extra protein from being able to eat bugs that they can catch. We do have some roosters so basically all of our eggs are fertile. We don't worry about cracking an egg open with a half formed chick because, as I said, we collect them everyday. If we get a hen who decides she wants to sit, we pile all the eggs under her for that day and she sits on them and hatches them. |

You are absolutely right, animals don't need us and we don't need animals (like meat animals ) You can not be totally again us having pets that were wild animals 1 reason is that GP's were once wild animals, same as I will be housing a hawk next year |

| Re: Need help with a little project I'm doing! These chickens are so goofy. They will follow you around everywhere waiting for you to throw them some scratch. We don't have screen doors on our house and we frequently leave the doors open to get the draft going through the house and I am always finding at least one hen standing in the kitchen! They really are a hoot to watch. |

For every hen hatched for egg laying there is a cock chick that is killed almost immediately after struggling from the egg. Official advice is to kill the chicks before they are 72 hours old using carbon dioxide (CO2) gas. Where small numbers of chicks are involved, neck dislocation or decapitation is also advised. (MAFF, 1987). Another often-used method is a mechanical 'homogeniser', which minces the chicks alive. About 30 million cock chicks a year are killed a year in Britain alone. That's one of the many reasons why I stopped eating eggs ![]() I am, I am against breeding of all animals. There is no way for us to always have pets that doesn't include breeding once all the rescues have been emptied. Therefore, if I do not support breeding, I do not support there always being pets around. |

Fair enough but there is so many birds of prey, GP's, cats, dogs, rabbits, chichillas, reptiles, gerbils, hamsters, rats, mice etc etc, I dont think there will ever be an end to it unfrotuneatly, I know any hawk/owl food we buy all the animals are gassed as they are no use to use for food if they arnt. |

| Re: Need help with a little project I'm doing! There's no reason we need humans. In fact this planet would thrive a lot better without us. We're the only species who destroys the very habitat we need to survive. I can't stand human arrogance and the thinking that we are the most important creatures and every other being exists only to be of benefit to us. |

| Re: Need help with a little project I'm doing! I know in Texas, for the average person, it is illegal to keep, capture, relocate, disturb the nest and/or kill a bird of prey. I think this goes for all of US but I am not sure of that. |
