Becoming Vegan? Well I have been thinking and I saw the Earthlings video and I am completely disgusted by what they do to those poor animals. I really want to become Vegan but I love cheese and when I saw I mean love. So I am confused I want to become Vegan but I don't want to give up cheese any suggestions?

Re: Becoming Vegan? I have a question about mcdonald's chicken nuggets I talked to my dad about becoming a vegan and he said I wouldn't get protein and he also said I'm already one (I don't eat a lot of meat) and the mcdonald's chicken nuggets aren't even chicken it's processed I'm confused what exactly is the difference between those?

Re: Becoming Vegan? He's being facetious. McD's chichen is chicken. What part of the chicken I have no idea, but chicken nonetheless. Why don't you become a vegan who eats cheese (technical term is lacto-vegetarian, right?) And if you eat less of it, you can get it locally. Depending on where you are, probably you can find a nice farm with more traditional/ humane farming techniques. You don't have to go all the way all at once, and make sure you research so that you have all the proper nutrients in your diet.

Re: Becoming Vegan? What does facetious mean? I guess I could do that but I think I'll think about it some more

Re: Becoming Vegan? The reason you love cheese is because it is addictive. Scientists have discovered that cows milk contains small amounts of opiates including morphine and codeine which are produced in the cows livers. Also the protein called casein, present in milk from all species, is highly concentrated in cheese. This breaks down during digestion into lots of opiates known as casomorphins. Effectively dairy products are like a drug. They make you feel good at the time so you want to go back for more. Its a hard habit to break but once you do the human taste buds usually change. I feel quite nauseous when I think how I used to eat so much cheese. Nature designed milk this way because milk is for babies and the opiates have a calming effect on the infant and its thought may help to establish the mother and infant bond. Nature never intended us to drink milk after infancy and certainly not the milk of another species, which is why we lose the enzyme that helps lactose digestion at around the age of 5 years. There are various vegan cheeses available which I think taste nicer than dairy cheese. I love Cheezly and it comes in loads of different flavours.
