Okay...First, let me start off by saying that I have a friend who is just not the brightest of the bunch. For some reason, which I have no clue why, she thinks turkey isn't a meat. And for another reason which I have absolutely no idea why, she started a petition for people to sign if they thought it was a meat or wasn't. Her backup was "it's a poultry, so it's not meat." She also thinks fish isn't a meat. Fish is seafood which is an animal product and therefore, meat. And I told her, but I guess she is just to stubborn and ignorant- and people actually signed that they thought it isn't a meat. What has the world come to?? Going on some websites, some said it was and some said it wasn't, others said it depends. Can anyone back me up here?? I definitely think it's a meat but it would be great if I could get some accurate information as to why just to prove her wrong. (Honestly, I think she just did it to get some attention.) Thanks! |

Paultry and fish are meat. As far as I know, if a living being that has blood flowing through it's veins, a heartbeat and a brain has meat. Thats my thinking, am I right or wrong? |

Turkey not meat - How ridiculous!?! I can't believe anyone could be so silly!Meat is animal tissue - "animal" meaning anything in the kingdom "Animalia" (as opposed to plants, fungus etc). Mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish and insects are all animals. Animal tissue (usually muscle, sometimes other tissues such as organs) is "meat", so eating any animal, whether turkey or fish or bugs is still eating meat. The Oxford English dictionary defines meat as "the flesh of an animal as food". Wikipedia also explains it. |

I know a couple of so-called vegetarians that still eat fish and seafood products! I just think it is so stupid of them. |

I think you're right gpigluver14, I think she's just trying for attention. Whether or not someone thinks it is a "meat", it still is obviously an animal product, and a veg*n wouldn't eat it. Is she making excuses so she can eat it? What I mean is does she say she doesn't eat "meat" and is saying that she can eat poulty/fish? Or is she just being argumentative with you? |

I myself am not a vegetarian but am always baffled by people who say they are and still eat fish. How is it that they think that birds and fish do not qualify. I agree with who ever mentioned if it has a brain and blood running through its veins then it is meat. Just curious if she thinks turkey is not really meat than what is her stance on chicken. She couldn't very well put them in two different categories. |

Or goose, duck, squab, quail...you get the picture. Yep, they're meat. If it has a brain, blood, flesh, nerve endings, it's meat. |

Sounds like an immature argument to me. I do find comments about the intricacies of what is and what is not suitable for a 'vegetarian' to eat unhelpful. If someone is trying their best to help - in whatever little way they are able - then surely that is worth more to the world than others criticising their attempts as 'impure'. |

Well she is not veg*n, so she really made me feel, what's the word? dumbfounded I guess that she could think that, (since I'm a vegetarian.) I guess she finally re-thought her views though because there was nothing about it today- she must have given up. Quote:
