need some help with diet

my son has been diagnosed with, among other things, a wheat and dairy intolerance. I really don't know much about this stuff. I did sign up for an organic food (mostly fruits and veggies) delivery thing ( Urban Harvest Organic Delivery ). What can I do for milk and cheese though? we go through at least 2 - 1 gallon jugs of milk a week, and lots of bread cheese etc. what kind of milk should I get? soy rice, nut? what about cheese? would goat cheese be OK? Sorry I have a lot of questions.

Naomi

Re: need some help with diet

You could try soya, rice or nut milk (I haven't tasted nut milk before) - but soya and rice are both quite palatable - though will probably take a wee bit of getting used to. We drink only soya milk - use it in/on everything - cereal, tea/coffee, in cooking etc. I am surprised that whomever made the diagnosis didn't also offer dietary support. I would tend to steer clear of goats milk - though I know it is apparently less likely to cause intolerance than cows milk. However it's up to you!

You can buy vegan/non dairy cheese, yoghurt, cream etc. I personally found the cheese (called scheeze over here) unpleasant - to put it mildly, but that was a long time agao - and maybe there are more appetising varieties on offer now!

There will be a lot of information about dairy-free diets on-line - it would probably be worthwhile looking into vegan diets too, for good ideas and information.

Best of luck!

If your son dislikes plain or vanilla soy milk (which he might because I feel it's a bit of an acquired taste), he will LOVE the chocolate. You can't tell the difference from cow's milk, and that might help ease him into the vanilla.

Re: need some help with diet

thanks for the tips It will be pricey going to the soy (or anything different) because of how much milk we go through in a week.
