Re: Vegetarian vs vegan I know. I wasn't directing my post towards you, just the general topic that spawned from the gator nugget example. I actually think that is a bigger deal because however million people who watch that show are seeing a vegetarian eat gator for no good reason. I just got to thinking about the people who go around squealing like a cat with it's tail in a knothole because they accidently ate a single bite of meat. And I did see that episode where the whole family ate raw meat. I nearly lost my lunch. My husband makes jokes now about brushing our teeth with clay and butter.

Re: Vegetarian vs vegan I didn't see the one about the raw meat, that's disgusting. I have seen different tv shows though where people eat rotting meat ![]() What bugged me about that chick also was her rationalization that they weren't vegitarian animals (ie not mammals), just alligators and being a big reptile person I thought that was a little...um not cool, but that's the way it is for reptiles. Everyone likes mammals, birds, etc (I do too-but I LOVE reptiles,or "herps"). Poor reptiles ![]()

Re: Vegetarian vs vegan I have been vegetarian for 2 years, vegan for over 1. Its not that hard, you just think about the suffering you would cause to the animals if you ate some meat, or some diary, or eggs. I use things not tested on animals, and my furry friends, the rats and guinea pig are vegan. I am very strong in animal rights and so I do not call the rats or guinea pig mine, I do not believe in owning pets, i believe we are to take care of them...and we are to be their friends, and they are to be our friends. Anyways, I got to go do some hw now, bye Last edited by VoodooJoint : 03-07-07 at 03:58 pm. Reason: removing inappropriate content

Re: Vegetarian vs vegan I've been vegetarian for over 6 months now and in that time it's been quite obvious that with whatever you do it will never be enough for some people - everyone always has an argument against vegetarianism. But at the end of the day at least a vegetarian or vegan person is doing something positive about their beliefs, rather than turning away because it just all seems so impossible. I found it really easy to give up meat, and over time I hope to find it just as easy giving up dairy and other animal related products. My goal for this year is to make all our household products cruelty free for example, rather than just my cosmetics and beauty products. And while I already avoid things like leather and wool, I'm also wanting to wean myself away from dairy. Eggs are my weak point but I've already convinced the bloke to let me get chickens when we have a suitable garden. I'll never be vegan but that doesn't mean I can't cut out many more products in my life. In the end, all you can do is all you can do - in whatever way you are at least making a difference and following your beliefs. I also find this page on the Vegan Society website very helpful: Exploitation

Re: Vegetarian vs vegan Alex brought up another good point. People who are vegt. and own carnivorous animals and force them to be vegt. For instance, I work at a pet store and this lady bought a wood turtle (omnivorous) instead of a tortoise(vegt) and then complained when the wood turtle wouldn't eat veggies (this is common w/ omn.). You can't deny that some animals eat only meat. Why own these animals and force them to live another way. You know, the whole "one day all animals will eat hay" theory. I don't get it.
