Talking Great Home-Made Toy Idea For UK-ers!

I've discovered a great home-made toy that my piggies love .

It's been suggested on the site using 'brown paper groceries bags' that your pigs can hide and play in. As other UK-ers will know, all our supermarket bags are plastic! So, I make my own brown bags from grease-proof brown cooking paper that you can buy on a roll at the supermarket (in the aisle where the tin foil and cling film are)! Cheap and easy. I simply shape a tube like shape and tape along the seam.

My pigs LOVE this more than any store bought toy! They nibble it (which is harmless), hide in it, walk through it, poop on it and jump ON it. They appear to really like the sound the paper makes.

And the best thing is once they've peed, pooped and nibbled it to peices just throw it in the bin and make a new one! A roll lasts ages.

So try it out guys! Would love to hear if other people's piggies love it too. :-)

I'd be worried about the tape...

I think you would be better off securing it by folding it several times along the long edge. Tape might be a problem - what if it comes off and gets wrapped around a leg? It might also get nibbled and swallowed. Otherwise, I think this is a great idea.

I use gummed non-toxic paper tape like so:

Won't hurt the piggies in the slightest. Sorry I didn't point this out.

It is possible to shape a tunnel by crumpling the paper up instead of taping.

Homebase still use brown paper bags!!!

We used to call that tape 'cow gum tape' because that was the glue it was made with - from cow hoof. We used it a lot for stretching paper for painting. It is a bit of a faff - soaking and drying, is thiat the same tape?Hope they've changed the recipe nowadays, does anyone know?

To the best of my knowledge they still make it the same as they always have, using animal by products.
