    Question Red/Irritated Skin

    Hello,
My guinea pig Midge has a small spot on her skin that looks kind of irritated. I'm not sure how she got it. I am thinking that possibly it is dry or that her sister has been biting her. A while ago I put a little bit of coconut oil on her skin because it was dry, and Mooka (her sister) was interested in it and may have bitten her. Can you tell me how I can treat this? Here are some closeups:

    Thank you!

(Also, it may look like she has lost hair or something, but it is just the way her fur is parted.)

It is located on the side of her lower back.

It does look like it might be a bite, or she may have scratched herself. Whatever the cause, keep a very close eye on it for any signs of infection -- redness, swelling, heat, drainage -- because guinea pig bites are very prone to abscess.

Thank you, I'll keep an eye on it Is there anything I can put on it to make it heal? Any kind of lotion or oil? Or should I just let it be?

I'd just keep it clean, and only treat it if it looks like an infection is developing. If she was bitten, the damage is underneath the skin, and nothing you can put on topically will touch it. If she wasn't bitten, it may heal by itself. But as I said earlier, watch it like a hawk, and get to the vet if you see any signs of infection.
