Here is my homemade animal safe/non toxic glue recipe. I used it to glue down the shelf liner. I figured yall would enjoy having access to a glue you can use around your piggys and not have to worry about them eating it

1 cup tapioca starch
4 Tablespoons of sugar
2 cups of cold water

Mix starch, water and sugar in a sauce pan until all ingredients are dissolved. Stir over medium heat until it forms a paste. This mixture should be stored in an airtight container that just fits the amount that you have left.

As far as storage. I THOROUGHLY cleaning out an Elmers glue container/poured it in there. xD
And for how well it holds up, I haven't had to re-glue a single piece back down. And mind you he RUNS up n down this ramp....ALOT.

I like the idea. Have you had any issues with bugs trying to eat it?

Nope
Then again, we don't have much of a bug problem in our home.
Clean freak over here, so any bug that manages to make it in, does NOT make it out alive.

I really want to build two beds and put fleece and pillows on them, so the pigs can sleep on them. I just want to glue the fleece down, I think I'll pick up some extra stuff next time I go shopping! Thank you!

Would it be safe around rats and mice? I have always wanted to build things out of popsicles sticks i.e. toys, levels, etc , but the glue has always stopped me since I don't want them to eat it and get sick. :?:

I would imagine if it is safe for the guineas it should be safe for any other rodent or animal.

Just wondering, you said that your piggy runs up and down the ramp all the time, but I didn't see you mention how long has it been glued like that. Its a super awesome idea, and if it works great I'll definitely try it! Thanks oodles!! :D

MrWhistles,

Do you have any pix of the ramp in place? I hadn't thought about building a second story but am thinking about it now. Of course setting up a ramp that one is happy with is an issue and you seem to be onto something there.

thx

As part of a project in one of my classes we created this/seeing the ingredients I was suddenly hit with the idea of traction for Whistles ramp. From there it was just a matter of seeing how well it held up. And so far, it's doing pretty darn great.

I have his ramp set up on the backside of the cage. I've often toyed with the idea to center it with his loft.
