I am very worried I have never heard this sound before but my guinea pig goofball has made this weird sound 3 times in the last 10 minutes i monitor them closely and this sound has never came from him before.

I think I know what you're talking about, Ginger made it once when she was eating. It almost sounded like she choked or something. If he's done it so often in such a short period of time I'd take him to the vet. Better yet, the emergency vet. Make sure it is cavvy-savvy though.

Take your guinea pig to a emergency vet ASAP. I've heard the sound you are talking about, and I have only heard it about once each in my pigs lifetimes. Two times in ten minutes is just not normal. You should be very worried, and you need to get your guinea pig to a cavy-savvy vet.

I am calling petco first thing tomorrow morning. I got them on the 4th of this month from petco and they have a 15 day free vet garuntee policy and its only been 10 days since ive had them so petco will cover all costs of the vet fee. Do you guys know if this is fixable? will he die???? :ooo

Me personally. I wouldn't take them to petco. They'll probly take them to a vet that knows next to. Nothing about guinea pigs.
Please resteach exotic animal vets in your area.

I wouldn't take him to petco. There are soooo many stories about how the vets there know nothing and have hurt the pet more than helped them. Find a cavvy savvy vet in your area and take him there

i am on the phone with petco told them the situation and she said "they make a popcorn sound and thats normal" i told her im aware of that sound and its something completely different she said okay we would like you to bring him in today and we can check him out. I have A BAD feeling that what there gonna do is say oh well we didnt hear it so your guinea pig must be fine. Anmd tell me to go home. Because he doesnt make this sound every 5 minutes. He makes it maybe every 5 hours ive heard it 3 different times this morning and its currently 10 AM.

Don't take your pig back to Petco. Find a vet who has experience with guinea pigs and take him there. Get Petco to pay for vet bills.

    Check this link for vets.

petco will not pay the vet bill of someone you choose, they want me to take him to petco so they can look at him and then from there they will send him to the vet, I am not sure If I can choose the vet or if it's their pick i will be sure to ask.

Please don't start multiple threads for the same sick pig. I've merged your threads.

Do not trust Petco vet. Take him to a guinea pig specialist and threaten to sue Petco if they don't pay.

We understand money can be hard to come by.
But vet's will be happy to accept payments when you cannot pay in full.
Have you also considered looking into Care Credit?

That does not sound like popcorning to me. A Petco or Petsmart vet is very unreliable and unethical. It's true, thats why you keep seeing posts by people saying to take the guinea pig to a different vet. There are even countless stories about pet store vets killing the animal before you get back to see him. They are only there to get paid. Google "exotic vet" and your zip code. You need to have a good vet. The guinea pig could die because the pet store vet doesn't care and is inexperienced. Pet parents have to be responsible, take the animal to a good vet if something is wrong. The guinea pig depends on you.

petco vet care for my guinea pigs please answer this Q

Okay, I bought both of my GPs from petco, I got them on the 4th and you get a 15 day vet gartuntee by petco and on the 10th i noticed that one of them has been making a cough / hiccup sound every now and then i said eh nothing to worry about the next day i heard it about 10 total times i started to get worried so i took them both to petco and told them the problem and all said and done i had to say farewell to my pigs its been about 4 days since i have dropped them off at petco for vet care. I got a call today saying that there was a condition and it was a URI with my pig i said oh no thank god i caught it so early he said yeah they will be on antibiotics for this week and hopefully on wednesday of this next week we can have you pick them up if all is good. I said alright sounds great thanks.

I am just wondering... What if there is more problems in the next couple of days of me having them back... I dont want to take home sick pigs, i want to pay for quality pigs in good condition. I am wondering if I should just ask for a refund on wednesday and get my 60$ back and then adop two from a shelter?

Ok.. I posted to your other posting as well, but in case you don't see it I wanted to post here and let you know. Technically, if you get them back, when you pay for them again the 15 day period starts over again, so if there are problems gain, you could go through this process all over again until you have no problems for longer than two weeks.

However, and I can't say this with enough sincerity. Do NOT let that thought comfort you into thinking that doing this over and over ( should it seem to be necessary) is a good idea, that you can make sure you have well pigs, and t no vet costs. The consequences of blindly trusting in that system can have dire consequences. Please, please, go check your boys and visit with them every day!

First and foremost, I have no doubt you have built a relationship with your boys already, and I I know from very recent and painful experience that they have started to bond with you. They do not forget in the couple of days they have been there! Also, as much as you care for them, you are far more likely to notice subtitle changes in them when you visit, even out of their regular environment, that can signal decline, rather than improvement and you can notify the proper people and get them more care.

When they do come home, if you notice another problem, even within the 15 day time frame, please, do not take them back again, the back and forth alone will put enough stress on them and likely make the worse! They need consistency, stability, and caring for, especially when not feeling well.

Just bite the bullet and take them to your local vet (with experience in caring for gpigs). If money is that big of a consideration, perhaps it is best to think about if owning a pet at this time, is the best option. I am in no way trying to sound like I am judging you, or lecturing you. I just don't want you and your boys to suffer from the same horrible, mistakes I made.

The choices I blindly made in the last week, will be with me a very, very long time. Especially at night, when less than a week ago I was rocking sweet Lucy, wrapped in her pink blankie,in her favorite chair, while watching tv, and tonight, I am sitting here typing the letter, with her empty blankie in my lap, and tear-stains on my face again. I will keep you and your boys in my thoughts. I hope all goes well, and you are safely together gain soon!
