I don't have enough room in my house to fit a 2x6 C&C cage (the cage would end up spilling into the walkway), so I ended up creating a 3x3 C&C cage for my

two Guinea Pigs. Is this big enough?
Or do C&C cages HAVE to be a 2 by 'Whatever' size?

Your cage is 42" by 42" and that is 12.25 square footage. It is big enought just barly. I have a 4 by 5 for my 2 pigs. If your carfull about your houses and hay rack and kitchen you have enought space. A top level would make more room for the kitchen and on its own level its easer to keep the cage clean.

3x3 should be fine for your two guinea pigs! Don't quote me on this, but I am pretty sure is is equivalent to the size of a 2x4 which is the recommend size for two guinea pigs.

And no, you don't have to have a 2 by "whatever" some people have 4x5 or other crazy sizes. That's what is great about C&C cages is they can fit almost anywhere, and you can make them in any shape or size! You shouldn't have the width any smaller than two grids though because a 1 grid width isn't big wide enough. I have a 3x5 cage and I love it!

Thanks for the quick reply! Yah I section off a small part ( 1x1 grid ) for the kitchen. I'm planning to make a second floor later on this week. I'm running awfully short on connectors though.

Your cage is fine for 2 pigs. A 3x3 is bigger than a 2x4 but smaller than 2x5.
Just calculate by square grids:
3x3 = 9 square grids
2x4 = 8 square grids
2x5 = 10 square grids
