    Can guinea pigs climb?

We're thinking about getting a guinea pig and saw a few cages that had open tops. Can the guinea pigs climb or jump out?

It is very rare that a pig will climb or jump out of a C&C. The people that have lids on theirs is because they either have dogs, cats, or small children and need the lid for the pigs' safety.

Please adopt from rescues or shelters and don't buy from pet stores or breeders.

Guinea pigs can jump up on top of pigloos or climb ramps but they won't jump high enough to escape from the cage. The walls of these C&C cages you see are 14" high.

    Re: Can guinea pigs climb?

The only cases I've heard of of a pig climbing out of an open-topped grid cage are cases where an unaltered male was placed in smelling distance of a female. (Even then it is unlikely for most pigs to make it out.)
There are hundreds, if not thousands, of people who keep their pigs in open-topped cubes-and-coroplast cages without any escape or worry of escape.
Do you have other, uncaged, animals in the house? If so, then a lid made out of closet grid shelves is necessary.
