    Question Is Carefresh Compost-able

When I was young we had guinea pigs and we used wood shavings over newspaper. The cleaning ritual involved carrying the cage (sans piggies) out to the compost, dumping the shavings and paper etc.

We are getting ready to adopt and I have been looking at all of the alternatives now available.

Does anyone know if CareFresh is compost-able?

It says on the package that it is just cellulose fibers, so it should decompose. I would compost it, although I'm not sure how long it would take to decompose. Just make sure you don't use the cheap carefresh knock-offs. They aren't made from natural fibers.

    Thank you.

The wood shavings took forever. I will probably need a second composter not only for the volume but also for a longer cycle of break down.

Definitly compostable and doesn't take as long as shavings but still takes a while. makes quite nice mulch (we used a natural fibre bedding for the horses) did the grass loads of good!
