I was just wondering what the average is a day that a guinea should be drinking. My guinea pig usually finishes off her waterbottle in a day. It's a 16oz one. Is that normal or does that seem like alot?

I don't think there is any average/set amount. It depends on the pig, veggies fed, temperature, activity level, etc. etc. It sounds fine to me.

What is her diet like? Maybe if we knew would could better tell you whether or not she is drinking too much water.

Personally, to me (I have 5 pigs) none of them could drink close to that in one day. My 5 pigs go through about 15oz of water TOTAL (that's about 3oz a pig) a day. They also get unlimited timothy hay, 10oz of pellets a day, lots of leafy greens (which I wash and pat dry) that a a little damp, and various other vegetables with the occasional piece of fruit.

So I would say 16oz PER a pig in a day is too much.

The following link is taken from guinealynx,

(broken link removed)

It states that a symptom of diabetes is excessive thirst.

It is possible you piggie is not drinking all of that water but rather, playing with the water bottle. I have a couple piggies that like to play instead of drink.

I did not think of that, but that is also a VERY good point to make!

16oz. per day isn't really too much. It will depend on the veggies, how wet the veggies are, the temperature, etc.

Wow, I guess my pigs just don't drink a lot of water. But that is good information to know, thanks Ly!
