Our new cavy girl has a really goopy looking eye, this started the night we got her. It is watery and as of today has some crusting starting. I don't know if this bugs her or not but I went ahead and took a warm wash cloth and washed the area a little bit earlier. Does this help her any?

I am going to be phoning the vet first thing in the am because she is new and only came to me Friday afternoon, I was going to make the apptment anyway. But now I want her seen ASAP with the eyes, dirty ears and some sneezing I think she has a URI.

Is the warm cloth going to help any with her eye or hinder her?

I don't know if it will help very much. I am glad you are going to be taking the new guinea pig to the vet. It definitely sounds like a URI. I wish the best of luck to you!

One of our boys has what we call poopie in his eyes. It reminds me of dog eyes. We have had our vet check him out and he is fine. The specialist that we also see says that some piggies do have watery eyes and if they don't clean themselves properly they will have some crusties left over.

If you are going to take the new piggie in to the vet, why not take Rosie with so she can finally be looked at to see why there was so much weight gain (as you were worried that she might be pregenant).

When my pig had goopy eyes the vet gave him antibiotic eye drops because it was ulcerated or something wierd. It turns out that he had been poked in the eye by something and treatment was necessary. That might be the case.

So sorry it has been so long for an update, but I have been sick with my 5th case of Strep Throat in as little as 6 months. They are finally sending me to the specialist! Should have had my tonsils removed as a child because as an adult now I am sure it will take longer to heal.

As for Zoey, she has a clean bill for health, no URI and no eye infection. She has a bit of love handles to lose but otherwise is doing good. She's starting to come out of her shell (so to speak) too and is showing signs that she wants to be with us rather then run from us.

I would also like to mention that she is one strange piggers! I gave her an inverted kraft dinner bulk box with a soft cuddle cup on the inside, first she kicked out the cuddle cup, then moved the box with it and layed down on the shavings right in the open, kiln dried pine of corse. So I remove the cuddle cup and put the house back and she still prefers to sleep in the open. I don't think I have ever seen a piggy that didn't want to hide all the time.

When she makes sounds, wheeking or purring it sounds different, could this be from being deaf? it sounds loud but of key if you can understand what I am trying to say. I know her sounds will get Rosie and Ella going but not the other way around. She is starting to really injoy her lettuce and occasion fruit, she takes it straight from the hands and I have to watch because she sometimes misses and gets the fingers and it hurts! She likes her carrots and any kind of lettuce that I have tried, gotta love the bagged pre-cut lettuce this week is Romaine, Endive, Raddichio *sp* and Butter lettuce, I think that has them all.

She seems to love anything with the name 'FOOD', and if she smells it her little head goes into zoomy speed with the 'Stevie Wonder' thing.

When we have company over and my house is louder than usual Pepper will go into the hidey and sleep. But his normal routine is to sleep sprawled out in the open, right in front of the cage "door". I think he knows where the food comes in at, and he knows he is always first in line haha!

I see you changed her name from Nemo to Zoey eh? :D

Glad to hear she's adjusting so well and that she got a clean bill of health, I know that makes you feel better. Are you gonna go ahead and finish quarrantine out though even though she's already been to the vet and deemed healthy?

I am going to give Zoey another week with just getting used to us a new family then I think I will start the intros.

I had mentioned in my thread "Nemo is coming home" about the name change, but yes we all decided that Zoey was the name for our gal. She will never know her name but I think it suits her, she is so sweet.

I am on may way to the school for my volunteer work day but I plan on taking some update photos when I return. Then I can share how much she has 'opened' up to us and to show how well she is looking with a week of love and good food!
