When you feed kiwi, do you take the skin off or leave it on?

Definitely peel it. I can't imagine that fuzzy brown skin would be too easy for little tummies to digest. As with all fruits, make sure you only feed small amounts and only 2-3 times a week.

I always peel the kiwi. There are other fruits that you can give daily according to GuineaLynx.

Fruit (a couple fruits per day from this list):

--- Apple, thin wedge, no seeds
--- Apricot, dried, a couple raisin-sized pieces
--- Banana, 1/4" round slice
--- Blueberries, several
--- Cantaloupe, 1"X 2"piece with washed rind
--- Grapes or Raisins (not both), one or two
--- Orange, one slice
--- Strawberries
--- Watermelon, 1" X 2" piece with washed rind

But just remember, fruit is suppose to be a small part of their daily diet. Also, be careful with the oranges, as too much can produce mouth sores.

Yep, I know all about the fruit servings and look at Guinea Lynx all the time, just needed to know about the skin because it didn't say, thanks, I'll peel.

I always just give them the whole kiwi. Sometimes slice it in half. Some eat the skin while some eat around it. They don't seem to really care or have any digestive tract problems/upset tummies afterward.

They had it for the first time today, without skin, half a slice each and they loved it! Took right to it and they don't usually take to new food right away.

2piggiemamma, Guinea Lynx said not to let them, they have little or no nutritional value, I would assume they pose a choking hazard and perhaps has a chemical similar to that found in other fruit pits that can be poisonous.

They'd have to eat a bucketload of apple seeds to be poisoned but they could potentially choke on them. Normally I pop them out of the apple slices and throw them away.

I feed kiwi with the skin on, I just use a soft brush to wash it first. Never have a problem feeding them the kiwi skin and all.

We here at cavycages do not advocate feeding fruits daily because they are high in sugar.
