    Thinking of getting a third...

So right now I have two very happy boars who get along famously. One is over a year old, Sparky, while the other, Pickle, is 3 months old. I recently got them an extra large c and c cage with the idea that I might adopt a third piggie. One reason I kind of want a third is so that if one passes away, the other is not left completely alone. I also just want one as I love my two guys and would love a third as well!
Just a couple questions on this, could it be a bad idea as far as straining the relationship my two already have? Again they get along so well I'd hate to interrupt that. Also, I'm wondering how old my little one should be first? I am not looking to get one right away, but to ask the woman who runs the rescue by me to let me know if she gets a young male. When I got Pickle she told me males tend to get along better if it is a young one you are introducing to an older one, which is why I'd prefer a younger pig. That's also why I'm wondering if I should wait until Pickle is a little older. Now, I am prepared with another cage if they do not get along, but of course I am not hoping for this.

Anyway I'd love to hear your thoughts/opinions on this matter as it is something I am seriously considering. Thank you

You never know if any guinea pigs will get along. My personal feeling is if you have a pair that's really compatible, why rock the boat? My pairs have always gotten along better than my trios or larger herds, which I've had. It seems like there's always an odd man out with an odd number. I currently have three pairs (two female pairs and a male pair) and a single female that didn't get along with either of my other female pairs.
