Help! Guinea Pig dental emergency
soo i was bonding with my pig (that what i call my guinea pig for short) and feeding him by hand (he is only a baby and he still needs to learn to be comfortable with 'the hand'). then he stopped eating and i was wondering if he was full or not. then he started running around franticly and i thought perhaps he was looking for a piece if food he lost. then i noticed one of his teeth on my bed. i looked inside his mouth while still comforting him and noticed that his tooth was broken almost to the gum line. i can see about 2 mm sticking out. i read that when such a thing happens, you should check to see if they eat alright. well he is eating fine and dandy, but at such a length as that, should i use a saline solution and watch his teeth carefully until it grows back in fully? what should i watch out for? ive never had a guinea pig's tooth break on me like that but my concern isnt wether or not it will grow back (becase guinea pig teeth are like a beaver's in the fact that they constantly grow. actually at a fast rate of 1.5-2 mm weekly) my main concern is infection and dental/jaw structure regualtion.

Hi. You don't have to be too alarmed if your guinea pig can eat properly then he will be fine. The teeth will grow back just keep an eye on him to see if he eats well and if the teeth grow straight. You don't have to put anything on the teeth.

Have you been able to determine how he lost the tooth? Did he fall or hit his face? If it was due to an accident, I'd watch him closely for any other signs of injury to his jaw, neck or head.

Just watch him carefully. As long as he's eating hay and other things by himself, he's probably ok. But if he starts chewing funny, or stops chewing, then it's time to get him checked out.

define chewing "funny" because with broken teeth wouldnt they chew funny to begin with? soo how "funny" is "funny?" im not too concerned as he is eating as he usually would and acting as if nothing happened.
