His ban from dog ownership is set to expire. I am not sure that I believe he is really rehabilitated.

yuck. he does not deserve to own a dog. or any other kind of animal. maybe if he let someone drown him and electrocute him mercilessly for no other reason, maybe then he'd fully understand and might deserve to own a dog. i honestly think people who abuse animals should be punished in the exact manner in which they tortured their poor animals. i think it'd put a quick end to animal abuse!
Ugh. He should never be allowed to get one. And honestly, No shelter would ever adopt to him. So he would buy from a petstore. UGH. Makes me sick!
I can believe he can get off a ban after what he did. I dont understand people who are mean to defenseless people or animals. They all need put on an island, men on one island women on another, with no animals. Then they need to just be left there. With food and water drops every few weeks, from airplanes so they cant get new interactions.
Sickening. Just sickening. Anyone who fights dogs and kills the losers has shown they think of dogs as objects to be used at the owner's pleasure. Such a person should never be allowed to own dogs ever again.
I should've posted a link to the news brief:

I guess I'm in the minority on this one, but...frankly, it's his legal right, and he's done his time. He was given a ban, and now it's expiring. Not to mention the jail time...
What he did was inexcusable, don't get me wrong. But he was punished for it. And honestly, does anyone here really think that if he gets a dog for his kids, that he'll get within 10 miles of a dogfight with it? If nothing else, he'll know he's being watched way too closely for that.

Part of the issue here for me is that their is a difference between what is "legal" and what is "just." Animal abuse is legal, or an least not unlawful, in many parts of the United States. Just look at breeder mills. That does not make it just.
I don't think he'll put the dog in a fight, but I wouldn't put it past him to kick it if he gets frustrated.
I'd also wonder what sort of values he'd pass on to his kids, regarding appropriate pet care.
i completely agree with you on that statement. america no longer believes in justice. i could go on and on about it. but i'll stop here. i just seriously don't think irresponsible pet owners should be allowed to have pets. and he's proved to be MUCH more than irresponsible.
Michael Vick, the HSUS and Wayne Pacelle all make my skin crawl. I think Vick should have been banned from sports AND banned from owning pets for life. You can add banned from having kids to that list, too......
I agree completely. I think it is the same. You cant just say well they will be watched closely. You dont know what is happening in his house behind closed doors. Sorry you can abuse without leaving a mark on the poor dog. Then when the dog turns on him or the kids it will be all over the news and they will kill the dog. I hate when people say they will watch more closely there is nothing you can do if you let an abuser go back to who or what they abused before it will happen again.
His family doesn't need pets.
Depending on the ages of the children, a lot of care might fall onto the parents. What if the children get bored of the animal entirely?
I also think someone capable of such actions do not just "change" after. Someone capable of such torture has something inherently wrong in their brains. Going to prison doesn't rehabilitate that kind of person. (Can't say it helps most people, actually)
I also agree if he gets frustrated and kicks the dog when nobody is around, nobody will find out. Why should he care?
I also have no idea what kind of children he has. They could be sweet angels, or future prison dirt. I'm sure many of us here have had some of their parents' traits passed down to us. Whether we like to admit it or not.![]()
I pray they fully evaluated them to be sure the dog will be safe. I also pray they will make surprise visits to his home to ensure the dog is well cared for.
Absolutely disgusting. I don't care if he's "paid his dues" in the eyes of the courts, he still has to live with his crimes for the rest of his life and should NEVER be allowed near another animal again.
I don't think he should even be allowed to have his kids live with him. He has proven that he has no respect for an innocent life. What's to say one of his kids won't make him really made some day and he will hurt one of them? There is plenty of statistical evidence out there showing that hurting animals (especially in such a sadistic way) can lead to hurting humans.
I can't believe any sports team or brand would want to associate with him and all the bad publicity he brings. Makes me sick.
People who are on a power trip often take a perverse pleasure in "getting away with something." Obviously, someone who fights dogs is not only on a power trip, but takes delight in torturing animals for their own pleasure. I can just imagine him kicking the dog around at home, when he's not under scrutiny, and thinking, "Take that, activists! I'm a big man and I can do what I want and you can't stop me." It may be legal for him to own a dog now, but that's only because the animal abuse laws suck.
There may be some shelters that would do that. But most are strict and do multiple homechecks and random check in visits and calls.
If he does get a dog, I bet it will be from a pet store, because it would be easier for him, and he could easily get someone to get it for him. I wish some people would never own animals.
