In front of the ear and eye.

    Hi all :D

Just joined the forum, been looking at the forum for awhile and finally decided to join.

My girlfriend and I have 3 male Guinea pigs (Panda, Patches and Picasso) who are about 6 months old. We have had them for about a month now. We believe Panda and Patches came from the same litter and have always lived with Picasso. Every night they all sleep closely together. We havent seen any bloodshed fights between any of them, just occasional raising of the nose between Panda and Picasso. For the last few days Panda has seemed more irritated.

Today we just noticed that Panda had some hairloss infront of the ear and what looks like a little infront of the eye as well. I was looking for some insight on the cause?

Thanks for the help! Anything is appreciated :)

We both thank you both for replies, input, and your warm welcome! :)

Fungus does not sound good :( . Currently we are isolating him to the second level of our C & C cage, we have picked up so vinegar to disinfect and clean their home. We have set up a vet appointment for next monday for Panda.

Do you have any other short term recommendations or tips until his vet appointment?

Also by any chance do you know of the causes of fungal infection in guinea pigs?

    Thanks once again!

Sorry, seems like i cant edit my post but looks like there is a possibility that Pandas brother Patches might have it too. From what we can tell Picasso does not have any fungus.

Fungus can be very contagious. On the link that Lissie provided it has some treatment options.
Make sure to clean everything really well, and you should probably chuck anything in their cage that can't be washed (anything wood, etc.)
Be careful when handling them so you don't end up with fungus too!

You can easily start treatment on your own and may get it resolved without a vet visit. Use an over the counter fungal cream like Monistat or Lotramin. Rub into the affected areas a few times a day.
